Any non traditional Thanksgiving dinners this year?
Teefus

For the last 35 years I've done the Thanksgiving bird over charcoal. First on my Weber Kettle and for the last few on my BGE. It was just the two of us this year and I was feeling sickly from some bug I picked up so I tried something different.
I par cooked a batch of wild rice, added sauteed bacon bits, chopped onion, celery, morel mushrooms, and chopped pecans, then dropped it all into a crock pot. I added a 3# boneless turkey roast and about a cup of turkey gravy concentrate (came with the roast). While I was convalescing in my recliner it spent three hours on high, then switched in to warm for another 90 minutes.
Bride of Teefus did her normal green bean and crunchy onion casserole plus some cornbread dressing.
It was damn good! I may try and cold smoke the turkey roast first next time.
Any other non traditional approaches this year, by chance or by choice?

Just a duck instead of a turkey; your TG crowd was twice as big as mine.

Our daughter is pescatarian. We partially played along. Scallops and mahi. Also did a turkey breast - mostly for the leftovers after she leaves.

I used to do an Eggplant Moussaka with Bechemal sauce for [Canadian] Thanksgivings. About 3 hours to do, but worth it.~~

Julia Child's Beef Bourguinon, baked potato, broccoli, salad, pumpkin cheesecake. I much prefer that stew to any turkey I've had, and I enjoyed cooking both the main course and the cheesecake. I also made some bread since I had the time. And you know, this was a very good meal.Somewhere on the Colorado Front Range

@kl8ton, that's just a chicken stand for a beer can chicken wedged in to keep the breast upright. I was hoping I could just set the breast on it but that wasn't working so I made something up.

Pumpkin CheesecakeStep 2: (Worth mentioning is that since I like crust, I generally increase this portion. The rest is per the recipe).1.25 c Graham cracker crumbs
3/4 c Ground pecans
3 tbsp White sugar
3 tbsp Brown sugar
3/8 c Butter
Step 3:
3/4 c White sugar
3/4 c Canned pumpkin
3 Egg yolks
1.5 tbsp Ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp Ground mace
1/2 tsp Ground ginger
1/4 tsp Salt
Step 4:
3 (8 oz) pkg Cream cheese
3/8 c White sugar
1 Egg
1 Egg yolk
2 tbsp Whipping cream
1 tbsp Corn starch
1/2 tsp Vanilla extract
1/2 tsp Lemon extract
1/4 tsp Key lime extract (new)
Step 1:
Preheat oven to 350, stone out.
Step 2:
Combine the graham cracker crumbs, ground pecans, 2 tbsp white sugar, 2 tbsp brown sugar, and the melted butter and mix well. Firmly press mixture into one 9" spring-form pan.
Step 3:
Combine 3/4 cup of the white sugar, the pumpkin, 3 egg yolks, ground cinnamon, ground mace, ground ginger and salt in a medium bowl. Mix well and set aside.
Step 4:
Beat cream cheese with an electric mixer until light and fluffy; gradually add 1/4 cup plus 2 tbsp white sugar and mix well. Ad the whole egg, remaining egg yolk and the whipping cream, beating well. Add cornstarch and vanilla and lemon flavorings, beat batter until smooth. Add pumpkin mixture from step 3 and mix well. Pour batter into the prepared pan.
Step 5:
Bake at 350 for 50 to 55 minutes. Do not over bake. Center may be soft but will firm up when chilled. Let cheesecake cool on a wire rack, then refrigerate.
