Kamala Harris

Have at it folks.

My expectation is that she fully gets the nomination, and then picks a Democratic governor as her VP.  I’m thinking Cooper, Shapiro, or Beshear.

I think that she will end up with the nomination, for better or worse tbd. Beshear might be a good choice . In fact he would make a better president than Kamala.

Her's to lose.  Shapiro will be the VP pick.  Brings along PA.

Mark Kelly would help secure AZ, and be a good choice.

Harris has raised $81 M in the last 24 hours, an all-time record for either party; and with nary a trading card nor sneeker!
(and my suggestion of Mark Kelly, above, would endanger a seat in the Senate, something I didn't consider.  Wish that didn't matter, but it does.

Quite the week on your side of the pond, then?

Earlier in the month we continued the grand British tradition of swinging violently to the centre, when given the opportunity to actually vote for a Prime Minister.  Given the unique approach to democracy we pursue, most often in recent deacdes the PM is picked for the nation by members of their own party, without recourse to public opinion.

But look across the Channel and that result pleased very few fans of universal suffrage either.  Focus on the result and not the process, maybe?

About Biden's standing-down, the centre-left press are all about Harris, the right leaning are a tad perplexed what to say or do, but have taken few cheap shots at her.  The issue being that whilst they align with Trump ideologically, they don't like him - or at least can't be seen to condone his views about women and non-white people.

What I have noticed is that when examples of US campaign ads are shown, they are much more visceral than UK political broadcasts. Ours are far less personality focussed.

No way. He doesn’t bring anything to the table since he’s not in a swing state.

Shapiro is a shoe-in. No way the Dems risk losing the Senate seat that Mark Kelly occupies.

Been on the Shapiro choice since Biden declared victory last Sunday afternoon.  Too easy for the obvious ability to impact the PA outcome.

I was reading about the AZ thing and since the Governor is a Democrat, they would just put a D replacement in so they wouldn’t lose the seat.

Fair point. I didn’t realize he had that seat until January 2029.

I like Kelly (who doesn’t like astronauts?) but I still think Shapiro is the stronger play.  PA is such a vital state to win.

I have had to rethink my position on this given what I know now about Kelly’s term in the Senate. I think Kelly might be the safer play given that he’s not Jewish. Israel vs Hamas is such a raw, emotional, topic for many people that it may alienate some voters especially in states like Michigan.

I think Kelly offers the strongest contrast in character to JD Vance as well.

Don't count Cooper out as a strong counterpoint to Vance. Pitting the couch-maker state against the couch philanderer is a story that could have legs.

Beau had a particularly strong set of comments on women/couples remaining childless, today, and his blame rests elsewhere (I try not to post his videos here anymore, but this one was too apropo):
