Our government does, Yes.....every chance they get it seems. They are like the Disney of Canada, except its no fun going there. But hey, I got a carbon tax rebate recently. It's enough for a case of Haams at today's prices.JohnInCarolina said:

I remember going to the first snocross races of the season in Duluth Minnesota when I was in my teens. Quick stop at the nearest liquor store for a 30 of Haams for maybe $10 on the way there. We were under age, so had to by a second case for some lucky guy in the parking lot who could help us out. It was still a heck of a deal as we paid $30 for 24 of anything in Canada. I think BYOB to the races is now frowned uponWeberWho said:2oz of The Last Drop or 3,690 cans of Haams beer.
Now don't go ripping on Haams. It's a solid garage beer. Nothing more, nothing less. -
I don't know about Canada, but it's Hamms down here.THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER

Lol, your right. I just copied from above me. I knew one of the letters was doubled up, didn't bother to check which oneLegume said:I don't know about Canada, but it's Hamms down here. -

When I was a teen, I lived in a small suburb of Ottawa that was known for cheap beer. There were two or three places with exceptionally cheap beer, often sold at the minimum permitted by law. They still exist. People from the greater area drove in from all over just to load up their trunks. Could get 24 Stella or Corona for 24 loonies. That doesn’t sound like ripping people off to me! -
Long before the wall, we would head down to the beaches in Ensenada (1985ish) and could buy a 20 bottle case of corona from the corona store for $6 and get $2 back when we returned the bottles.

In highschool we would head down to Nogales and buy $5 bottles of tequila. Our bags would all be clinking as we walked back across the border.Legume said:Long before the wall, we would head down to the beaches in Ensenada (1985ish) and could buy a 20 bottle case of corona from the corona store for $6 and get $2 back when we returned the bottles.I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

Good thing that was too far for us to go! I can actually today head in less than an hour to a duty free store on the US side and by 1.75L bottles of rye, vodka or gin for $10.00US and if you buy 12 the 13th is free.GrateEggspectations said:@JohnInCarolina @poster

Duty works out to $24CDN ea. That still works out to 50% less than buying it anywhere else in Ontario at $68/ea. It is also Alberta Premium (made in Canada), which are/were the makers of whistle pig and a bunch of others. -
There are various releases of Last Drop. These are from the bar at the Four Seasons in New Orleans, October 2022 (I only enjoyed the view):

LBGE - St. Louis, MO; MM & LBGE - around 8100' somewhere in the CO Front Range -
Rewinding a bit there-My youth was spent around 45 miles or 70+km's from Montreal on the NYS side of the border. Road trips into the city or surrounding environs were always eye-opening but calm relative to the above. And @fishlessman nailed it, St Catherines St was the hub of adult entertainment back in the late '60's early '70's. He!! of a cosmopolitan city. The atmosphere was ahead of its time.Old here-Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint.

@lousubcap
Appreciate the conversion for us metric-enthusiasts. I say it’s high time you head back to Montreal and see if it’s retained its former glory. -

@Mark_B_Good, I hear you.Mark_B_Good said:I rarely would spend when something is so much higher in price than the average, not because I couldn't afford it, but because I'm almost 100% guaranteed to disappoint myself. I'm thinking if I spend $100 on a shot, it has to cause my eyes to roll into the back of my head while I orgasm ... the issue is my expectations are simply going to be too high, and I know they won't be satisfied.
That has been my experience with most of the "expensive tastes" I've had the privilege of experiencing over the years - be it wine, beef, truffles, whiskey, whatever.
I usually sum up the experience in 1 of 3 categories:
1) I don't get the fuss and I just wasted some money.
2) I get the fuss but I don't need to do that again.
3) That was so good I could see doing it again sometime.
Whistle Pig Boss Hog (4, 5, 6, and 7 - I think they're up to #9 now and it didn't impress me), Pappy 12, and Pappy 23 all fall into the #3 category for me.
Your mileage may vary.XXL BGE, Karebecue, Klose BYC, Chargiller Akorn Kamado, Weber Smokey Mountain, Grand Turbo gasser, Weber Smoky Joe, and the wheelbarrow that my grandfather used to cook steaks from his cattle

I guess the other way to look at it, if I'm not willing to be disappointed ... I won't ever experience bucket #3.Foghorn said:

True. It probably doesn't need to be said but just for clarity I'll add that I've had a lot more experiences that fall into the first two categories than the last one.Mark_B_Good said:

I’ve had all the BTAC bottles, I’ve sampled all the Pappy’s. I don’t get it. Marketing at its finest. There is way better bourbon (to me) that is much more affordable.

This no lie…way back in 1968 I was just getting my feet wet investing in the US stock market. I bought 10 shares of “Canadian Brewers” which owned and bottled a beer named Stag. That very summer we traveled up and thru Canada and I bought a case of Stag FOOLISHLY thinking I should support “my” investment. Well…I actually tried one can and dumped it out! When we re-entered the US thru customs I opened my trunk for inspection and the officer saw that I had 23 unopened cans of Stag and he said something like “bringing alcoholic beverages back into the US is prohibited…but Stag is horse p*ss…” I said I KNOW I’m bringing these back to drown my stock broker for ever recommending this!poster said:

My first college dorm room had a wooden strip running across the wall, and I was finally able to buy/drink beer, so I started mounting different cans on that strip, as a "collection". I bought a can of "KB Lager" (or K & B Lager?), an Australian swill that tasted like Wonder Bread, soaked in water and left out in the sun for two days; gah, that stuff was miserable!
I still mounted that can on that strip... but upside-down."Hallelujah, Noel, be it Heaven or Hell,
