At a BBQ restaurant called The Polite Pig at Disney Springs:

I’d never heard of The Last Drop - turns out it’s a 50 year old BT. I bought a single pour of the Eagle Rare 17 y/o - pretty tasty.

Slap Disney and then BBQ???  But sweet price points for their offerings.  I did not know there was a 13 yo in the stable.
Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win.  Life is too short for light/lite beer!  Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

HOLY SH^T Batman! At those prices then the 8 oz flask of 15 y/o Pappy that that attorney egger sent me me that was a $1,600 fill! Guess I better get in touch with him and go wash his car or clean his home or something! BUT don’t worry gang…I won’t hold the rest of you to his standards!

I'm pretty disappointed in myself.  I've been in the place and had no idea...

  • I’ve been there and the food was amazing. I stumbled on the whiskey selection while sitting at the bar and seeing all the bottles and being shocked that I found such a great selection. This was the first place I had Stagg Jr. The bartender told me they were out of the Pappy and most of the Wellers because there was a big convention the week before and it was all bought up on the expense accounts.

  • Also, is it common for whiskey to be served in 1oz formats? I thought the standard was 1.5oz. No matter how good it may be, I think the bitterness of having paid $800 for essentially a thimble full of whiskey would likely overshadow whatever flavours I may otherwise have enjoyed.

It’s is common for these highly allocated bourbons and other rare whiskies. You really hope you get an untrained bar tender on their first day that doesn’t know any better and gives you a strong pour. That usually doesn’t happen at these higher end places

Kinda wondered that. But for some of those prices, I would sure resent being stiffed the half ounce!

Seems strange that there is no price break for the 2oz. Wouldn’t you want incentive for customers to order the 2oz off the bat? Otherwise, seems like the safest option is always to order the 1oz, with the potential to order a second if the first was tasty enough.
Pro tip: If you decide to repeat the 1oz, use the same glass  ;)

2oz of The Last Drop or 3,690 cans of Haams beer.

Now don't go ripping on Haams. It's a solid garage beer. Nothing more, nothing less.

Wow...I mean I love bourbon but to only such a degree.    Guess there's something else that needs to be added to the list of "if it flies, floats or f.... it's cheaper to rent"    Hard to rent bourbon though, need to figure out that business model.

theres seems to be plenty of bottles available of good bourbon under 80 bucks without spending 30k to spend a week down there for a half shot of the good stuff.....

    How was the BBQ?
The brisket was a tad dried out, maybe they aren’t using CVAPs. The pulled pork and jalapeño cheddar smoked sausage were great. The Mac & Cheese was among the best I’ve ever had.

The sweet tea Old Fashioned was really good.

Oh, I misspoke in my initial post, The Last Drop is a 50 y/o blended Scotch.

I remember going to the first snocross races of the season in Duluth Minnesota when I was in my teens. Quick stop at the nearest liquor store for a 30 of Haams for maybe $10 on the way there. We were under age, so had to by a second case for some lucky guy in the parking lot who could help us out. It was still a heck of a deal as we paid $30 for 24 of anything in Canada. I think BYOB to the races is now frowned upon

I rarely would spend when something is so much higher in price than the average, not because I couldn't afford it, but because I'm almost 100% guaranteed to disappoint myself.  I'm thinking if I spend $100 on a shot, it has to cause my eyes to roll into the back of my head while I orgasm ... the issue is my expectations are simply going to be too high, and I know they won't be satisfied.
This is an issue I have.  A local joint has really good wings.  On Tuesday, I can get them for $0.59/wing.  Every other day of the week they are $1.45.  I cannot, in good conscience, enjoy wings on any day that doesn't start with a Tuesday.
