Was on this for a long time. For some reason I quit posting and reading. I wonder how many of the old timers are still around? I saw a post by RRP and loco eng.Anybody else out there? I got my egg in 92 and started following this forum soon after or maybe it was private forum back then.

Welcome back! There are definitely a few. The original forum was privately held (greeneggers) but BGE corporate started this one and it eventually became the most used- especially by newer members. I think a lot of the OG forum folks preferred the original forum and many stayed over there until it shut down. I believe a lot of them are on a facebook page now but they are still actively getting together and posting on that page. I think it’s OG green eggers or something like that. That did a trip to my hometown last year (or maybe in 2020) and it was well attended.

Hi - Tom - As I recall you are further downstate here in IL than I am...around Centralia or so, right? I'm here in Dunlap, adjacent to Peoria.

Like Cen-Tex said there are a few of us still here, but not many - fishlessman is out on the water today or he would have checked in.

Spring Chicken, Chubby, Char-Woody, WessB, Gfw, Third Eye, Mad Max and Lawn Ranger all baled out long ago. Occasionally Nature Boy, egret and Mr Toad pop in. A few such as Car Wash Mike have passed on.

But such is life - so egg on and stick around - I recall you can be very helpful! Weren't you in the restaurant biz at one time?

BTW the eggfests which were so popular years ago are few and far between.

This may not be the time (when is??) or thread but perhaps we can endeavor to make this a much more (emphasis added) friendlier place, at least the main board. This is the initial forum exposure for new eggers.  Market it and grow the participation.  Thus their desire to engage.
No affiliation here.  Just trying to support the new members-we were all new once.
The OT section has gotten a whole lot of activity since @The_Buffalo exercised some powers and exercised a controlled purge.  Members recognized such and patterns shifted. That said, for true insights on a few wide ranging topics, give it a look.  You will learn something.
I need to get off my brown water soap-box.
    Be well!

Ron, next time you touch base with Bordello tell him that I said Hi. I was just thinking about him the other day.

I seem to recall some of the old timers talking about how they used to communicate via smoke signals that were sent out of the top of their BGEs.

It was just The Big Egg forum before 1953.  After 1953 it became The Big Green Egg forum.

You sure about that?  I thought it was the Big Green Chicken forum first.

I was a member of the Big Green Egg Forum, user name SamIAm. Joined after attending our first Eggfest, the 2006 Florida Eggfest hosted by Tonya (QBabe) and Larry( QBH) Lambert.

Other old timers I remember were Ken Stone (Bluesmoke) (RIP), of course John Hall, Molly Shark, Chubby, Chubby's Chic, and Banker John.

When I joined this forum I tried to enter my username from Big Green Egg forum but could not remember my password so I couldn't use my old handle.
So I added a 2 at the end of my old username and proceeded to register.

WOW…thanks for adding some other older or former eggers’ names which I had forgotten to add in my haste yesterday.

Ken Stone made some good ribs. I remember QBabe and QBH too, met them in Waldorf, Chubby was pretty funny, and I remember Banker John too. There was a guy from North Attleboro, can't remember his forum name, passed quite a few years ago. We used to email each other quite a bit. I miss that old forum.

Ken Stone made and sold quite a few rubs. Got another name from the 2007 Florida Eggfest. Celtic Wolf who made great Corn Bread in a cast iron pot and a name I know was already mentioned who was at both 2006 and 2007 Florida Eggfests, SSN686.

Ken made my favorite bbq sauce that I would drag the ribs thru. Have the recipe some place. The family gave the recipe to rrp with restrictions.  Sundown is the guy you are thinking about. Nice guy

Spring Chicken and Spring Hen, I know they still follow along at times.  2 of my favorite people in the world. LawnRanger as well.
And a big shout out to NakedWhiz. His website was the only real Kamado resource when I started Egging.
NakidWhiz gave me a thong at Waldorf Eggfest one year. He was a great guy.  Lawnranger once sent me a meat flipper, out of the blue, free of charge, with StumpBaby written on it. I still have it, too nice to use. I still have one of his original grill scrapers, he made from metal grass edging brackets. I'be been using that for over twenty years, barely any wood left on the handle.

???Are you sure that those rubs were from the Whiz??? As much attention as I paid I never knew that the Whiz made rubs etc...I think you meant Nature Boy who to this day sells ahelluva lot of GREAT rubs under the name of the Dizzy Pig.
