OT - Recent Movies You've Seen

Over the weekend we watched CODA.  It's relatively new, available on Apple plus.  Here's a trailer:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pmfrE1YL4I

This is a solid family movie if you're looking for something like that and have Apple plus.  It's a touching film about a young girl who can hear but whose parents and brother are all deaf.  CODA in this instance stands for Child Of Deaf Adults.  10/10, can recommend.

This weekend was a lazy weekend.  Not much going on in sports (Baseball), so I watched:

    Tenet
    The Prestige

Finished movies I half watched weeks ago:
    Superman: Red Son
    Reminiscence

The wife and I watched it when it came out.  We really liked it.  We also just watched Swan Song.  It was good, a little slow, but was good as well.  Also on Apple+.

Same here.  Can't imagine what the next part is going to be like.  Also, started The Peacemaker.  It is rather funny.  It is not kid friendly.

That is an interesting question.  The concept was very interesting, the filming was pretty good, and the ending was decent, but it was very slow building, and the slowness was just for style, not as a suspense building technique.  If they tightened it up and made it 90min, it would have been good.  At 1hr 56min it was just okay.  The trailer was better than the movie.  There are also a few things that I just could not suspend disbelief that much for.

    Agree.

I also watched "The Tender Bar" on Amazon Prime.  Great story and solid cast.

"The Unforgivable" on Netflix was good, also.  Sandra Bullock in a bit of a different role for her.

I haven’t actually sat down and watched a movie in a long time. Next one I will watch is probably going to be the new Top Gun, whenever it comes out.

Although not a recent release, we watched Bohemian Rhapsody over the weekend.  Good acting all the way around and the story line was nicely done.

Watched Red Notice on Netflix, how does The Rock keep getting work? He's a terrible actor. Seems like a nice guy so I guess that's the reason. Also watched Eternals a couple weeks ago. It was terrible. Last decent movie before those was Spiderman No Way Home.

I thought so too.  Now, I don't follow any of these comic book movies that closely.  But, I feel each one should stand on it's own without knowing the interlaced story lines, etc.  I had no idea what the world was going on at all.  I think I fell asleep - which didn't help with comprehending what I was watching.

Showtime Anytime has some good stuff I just watched. JFK Revisited, Bitchin’: The Sound and Fury of Rick James and The Real Charlie Chaplin. All were solid in their own ways.

I saw it in the theatre when it was released.  I left feeling exactly as you do.

Then, I read a few articles.

Haven't seen many movies lately but series have me going:   Ozark, Righteous Gemstones, catching back up on Ray Donovan, Billions but am eagerly awaiting Reacher.   Have read all the books and Tom Cruise was NOT the best candidate for the movie so hoping the series on Amazon will be better.

If you liked Reacher and Jack Ryan, check out Strikeforce.  I really liked that show.

  • Watched the Exorcist again, haven’t seen it since the theater when it came out. Still good but didn’t remember the scary stuff was really the last quarter of the movie.

Definitely been enjoying Peacemaker.  The opening credits could be one of the 5 funniest things on TV.

Movies I've been pretty blah on recently.  Shang-Chi and Encanto were both very good examples of Marvel/animated musical respectively.  I really enjoyed Tick, Tick, Boom, but if you're not a fan of Rent specifically or theater in general, I'm sure your mileage would vary.  The last thing I saw that really knocked my socks off was Judas and the Black Messiah.  Questlove's Summer of Soul was also a great watch.

  • King Richard.  Best I've seen in a while.  That Fresh Prince still can bring it.  And the home movie footage at the very end was incredible.

Awe, I forgot about that.  Watched that when it first dropped on HBO Max.  Definitely worth a watch.  Made me a fan of the Williams sisters.  Never much followed Tennis, but their story was incredible.

I mentioned earlier I haven't watched too many movies, that should have said 'new' movies.    I keep 3 on rotation for those times when there is absolutely nothing else on:   13 Hours, Lone Survivor and Zero Dark Thirty.    For whatever reason I can watch those over and over...much like my wife watching Elf 30x during Christmas season.

  • Just spotted that a sequel to the Justified series is in the works.  Not sure when it will be released, but here's a recent piece about it:

Sounds like it will be on Netflix.  Giddyup.
