No shortage of tots at Aldi’s. I now have tots and leftover brisket. I may just have to try @The Cen-Tex Smoker Denver tots.

Tot FOMO is the worst. Never go full Tot FOMO.
I didn't want to be a wanker but he did only have sweet potato tots. Hard to have full tot FOMO with hippie tots.

The problem with fresh potatoes is that they’re filled with polysaccharides comprising glucose monomers joined in 1,4 linkages.

    Was it a natural grease?
    Love you bro!
  • I hear you, they were loose and greasy. I never went back but I probably didn’t cook them fast enough or compress them tight enough.

I celebrate this.  It’s a breath of fresh air around here, but of course quickly mocked by the clowns that eat KFC and Taco Bell several times a week.

could be the starch. we have an odd dish here from the prince edward island area called rappie pie. you shed the potato, soak it, then fill a pillow case with it and twist it tight to remove starch and water. its a lasagna sized hash brown flavored with onion, celery, and stock. french arcadians and cajuns eat this and im not sure they use a clean pillow case

    Heads up @Mark_B_Good
GTA Loblaws weekly special, whole brisket AA/Select $3.99 lb starting tomorrow.
@Mr1egg @GrateEggspectations @paqman not sure about your neck of the woods.
Edit: Around here whole briskets are not easy to find at any price, let alone 3.99

That's an amazing price. Best I can normally find brisket is around $7/lb (CAD of course).

My main challenge right now is freezer space. LOL.

Agree with freezer space problem, tired of squeezing/juggling so we added a 7.2 cu ft chest freezer earlier this month. Already have a large upright, small upright and fridge’s bottom freezer  :)

Thanks for the heads up on brisket. I’ll see if I can make a break for it this weekend. We have a large standing freezer and the house we purchased two years ago came with a brand new chest freezer, so like you, we have many available options when also considering the fridge’s freezer space.

Thank you very much for letting me know, I’ve been wanting to try a overnighter. I’ll keep an eye out around me for this price.

Grab it now and deal with the space.  At a minimum you can wet age it for a good 3-5 weeks (some go longer) so that option mitigates the here and now!

@lousubcap Agree, it's a no brainer, even eye of round is hard to find at 3.99

While I would love to wet age, I fear that it may result in another zeppelin in my fridge! Have now had at least two go that way even when well within acceptable timeframes.

@GrateEggspectations - for me every brisket undertaking is wet aged.  That said, I always think of your zeppelin creation. So far so good in dodging that experience.

    Thanks again, @cannughead

While the deal on the brisket was great, my favourite part was the compliment I received from the cashier on my “big meat.”

I also picked up two whole tenderloins for breaking down into steaks - one for my in-laws.

Darn, missed out on the big meat compliments since I used self checkout. Was planning to get four but they had way too much fat...out of a dozen on display I settled for just two.

Also picked up some Free From birds

....but...if you're good, you don't need luck, right?
I suspect you have, but if you haven’t done Samin’s Buttermilk chicken, it is high time.
