Recommend two sauces

  • I was planning on only adding the honey at the end, raised direct or indirect. It reminds me of a honey glaze that I used with Morocco style turkey legs. It is a 3 stage process, brine, spice rub, cook with glaze in the last few minutes. A bit elaborate for an everyday cook.
    The Japanese barbecue sauce I was thinking of more as a marinade and still cooking indirect or maybe raised direct.
    I would just hit it with the hot honey after it's sliced.  Just drizzle it over the top.  I bet it will be delicious no matter what.

    Going thru the Sunday paper ads this morning (yeah, I’m old) I noted that Popeye’s, Chick-fil-A and Louisiana Kitchen (which we don’t have, why do we get their ads?) offer Hot Honey chicken dishes.  I also just realized that Church’s Fried Chicken apparently isn’t here any more, hmm.  
    I’m not a “meat-with-sweet” fan, so I have no interest in trying them, but I’ve been looking for the Japanese Barbeque Sauce locally; no luck yet.

    I just looked and you have FRESH MARKET. FRESH MARKET’S carry it in HOT / REGULAR/ & GLUTEN-FREE 
    Salado TX & 30A  FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now).

    I was at Global Foods today, a regular sized super market that has each isle dedicated to different countries/regions.  I was in the japanese isle and couldn't find any BBQ sauce.  Is this a real thing?  There were plenty of BBQ suaces in the Korean section.  I'm also bumming out because they didn't have the sweet soy sauce I like and I'm out.

    Look for your closest Fresh Market

    It is. I just love the store.  To bad it doesn't have one of those live fish sections, frozen only.  They even sell rabbit in the frozen isle.  

    I make it a point to buy one thing I've never tried before per trip. I discovered Japanese sweet potatoes this week. Mind blown to how good they are.  I have no idea how I could be on planet over 40 years and nobody told me about Japanese sweet potato.

    I think there are white and purple ones, so if you’re taking about the purple ones, I think @JohnInCarolina has a sweet potato pie recipe that uses them.

    I think there are white and purple ones, so if you’re taking about the purple ones, I think @JohnInCarolina has a sweet potato pie recipe that uses them.  
    He's probably talking about Yaki Imo, which are common Japanese sweet potatoes.  The purple ones are Beni Imo, and they're particular to Okinawa.  

    In fact the sweet potato pie recipe I have is for standard white sweet potatoes you'd find in the US.  It is my grandmother's recipe.

    I remember seeing it now. Thanks for sharing. On a similar note, the one we have used for God knows how long is very similar to yours.

    I spotted that Japanese Barbeque at hew new Ace Hardware that just opened up in Rowlett. Guess I'll have to stop and get some today since I was already planning on hitting the Spec's which is right next door to load up on the brown water. 

    It's worth a try. Honestly, it's super easy to make. I have been making that yakitori sauce for years without the tomato paste. Throw a little in and it's a dead ringer.
