Nice. My wife wants a Yukon Denali but I'm trying to convince her to wait on the big EV SUVs. I'm scared to make a major investment on a gasoline automobile until I see how this all plays out.
EVs being prone to highlight inefficiency, a big SUV EV isn't the best idea. A big battery can hide the problem, until you have to find a charger fast enough to fill up all of those kWh in a reasonable length of time. We are definitely approaching a technology change, but 'what to' is a big question. Battery electric is ideally suited to small, light vehicles. Maybe big SUVs will end up hydrogen or bio diesel or ethanol, small stuff as EVs. Anyway, agreed on big, new purchases now - the wrong time to jump.
Nah.  Even buses will scale.  I think this really boils down to an infrastructure issue as the charging stations are mostly made for relatively small vehicles.  The rate and scale of charge is an engineering problem with an engineering solution.  We're starting out with baby steps, but as big trucks are electrified, there will be charging stations that will handle it commensurate with the scale, eventually.

It's going to need a big step in battery technology. Big loads are easy with an EV, moving big loads a long distance isn't.
There are a number of solutions to this that exclude bigger batteries.  For example:

"World-first in-road charging test for trucks successful, highway speeds next" https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1127520_world-first-in-road-charging-test-for-trucks-successful-highway-speeds-next
I think a basic battery swap (dead battery out, fresh one in) is a likely path forward.  Then the only time needed is for the swap itself, not the charging.  Much like stopping for a tank of gas.
Tried by Tesla and abandoned as it wasn't viable for passenger cars. Maybe it'll resurface for big batteries in trucks on predictable routes.
It’s in place in China already, even for passenger cars.  With a lot of things like this, there’s an ebb and flow that’s just a matter of timing.

The US needs to figure out its fractured charging setup.  It is like buying a car and only being able to fill up at Shell.

Biden should use imminent domain and confiscate all the Tesla Superchargers and allow all brands to use them.  Elon has done a tremendous with technology, investment, and risk getting all the infrastructure setup.  Time for the government to take it over for the economic and environmental good.

I thought it was self evident?  In all honesty, in my neck of the woods, Tesla is the only EV brand that makes sense because of the infrastructure.  We looked into Audi, Porsche, and VW, and there just isn't the charging options.

Actually, in the UK it's like only being able to fill up at 10% of Shell stations.

At the main motorway services, there's 16 Tesla chargers and 2 old, slow chargers for everyone else to share. It doesn't work

When I was in San Francisco and Napa, there were Teslas everywhere.  I'm still surprised how many I see around STL, but it was incredible how many were out on the road in the SF Bay area.

the salesman that drove it home that i talked too said it will go head to head with the tesla and that the price tag was pretty good but jeesh, they could have made it look like a stang instead of any honda/hyundai/yota clone suv' out there.  my only comment looking it over was the dash screen was ginormous

That makes sense but seems kinda weird. I actually like the look of it but in no way associate it with a mustang just looking at it. Honestly to me it kinda looks like a Mazda CX-9. It being called a mustang would have zero impact on my desire to buy it.

The name confuses the market and dilutes the value of it, but then again, I do not make six figures picking names or running focus groups.  So what do I know.

I wouldn't necessarily assume Ford did its market research there.  I think the company still has some boneheaded Ford family members working for it that are in charge of high-level decisions, especially around the Mustang.  I don't know, perhaps that has changed.

But at the end of the day, what really matters is whether or not they're putting out a quality product.  At least on the basis of the DeMuro review, I think they've checked that box pretty well.

all you have to do is go to the supermarket and see all the suv's.  i may be more biased calling it a mustang because i only like the really old ones. not a fan mid 70 forward

I saw one like that at the charger back in March. Generally a good vehicle, especially like the charger door location. Don't like the skinny tires though.

My i3 tyres are pretty skinny, even on the S. Rolling resistance. What are they like on your ID4? And how are you liking it?

i didn't read the middle two pages, did she get the tesla? i know a few people with the S who say it's the best car they've ever owned.

last time i was due for a car, i talked the audi dealer into letting me try their electric SUV.  the experience of driving an electric car is damned cool.  but the price was absurd.

the economics must be improving if all these other brands are coming out with competitively priced electrics, right?

They’re just better products.  Maintenance on an EV long term is a fraction of what you pay with a gas powered vehicle.

235 by 20 inch front and 255 by 20 inch back. I like it just fine with one exception. I just came back from tending my parents during a medical issue. They were 100 miles North. I had to use my level 1 granny charger overnight just to regain enough juice to make it back to the CCS charger with a 50 mile buffer (using carefully driving). Some quibbles with the Car Connect app also . My dog didn’t care for being demoted to Backseat Boxer and having to lie on a plastic seat cover either but he doesn’t get a vote.
