I *might* have just purchased $500 of my favorite sipping tequila out of an irrational worry about tariffs.

So is the $500 worth 1 bottle or 10?

I carried amazon Prime for a few years, never used the music or video apps much, just the free 2-day shipping.  A couple years ago I noticed that "2-day shipping" was a hit-or-miss guarantee, and I dropped Prime.  Surprisingly, my goods delivery schedule stayed the same (2 days for most things, sometimes overnight, and sometimes a few days or even weeks later).  So I was good.

Since Bezosebub has fallen into, ah, certain "future of the US" club, I try to buy locally as much as possible, but still have to go to amazoid for weird spices, CDs, books, and tools; I was good with that too.

With the upcoming chinese tariffs by that same club, I decided to purchase all the items in my "basket" this evening.  Pay Attention to this part!

    1)  I first got an offer to rejoin "amazon Prime, as I'd paid ~$24 in shipping costs in the last year" (Prime costs $139/year)

    2)  I next got a listing of the items in my Basket.  Some were marked "get it tomorrow" for Free, or "get it tomorrow for Free, with a 30-day "free" subscription to Prime"; I deleted that option

    3)  As I refreshed the page, I noticed that one item, at a time, in my Basket, got shipping options with the "Free with a 30-day subscription to Prime"; I changed those even if it meant another day or two in delivery time.

    4)  THEN I noticed, after another Refresh, that one item, at a time, in my Basket, got ONLY ONE shipping option: Free with 30-day subscription to Prime!

    5)  I ended up moving all my basket items to "Save for later"

    6)  I added the two chinese items (one a bit expensive) back to my basket, and hit Purchase one more time

    7)  This time, I deleted the Offer to join Prime, and was able to purchase/ship the two items.  The email confirmation did not mention Prime, so I think I'm good.

Now, a "30-day Free Trial" for Prime is all well and good, but if you're 94% of the US population like I am, you won't think to cancel that membership within 30 days, and suddenly Bezosebub is sucking $140 out of your bank account per year, FOR NOTHING.

Pay attention to your purchases, folks.  The "club" members are doing everything possible to rob you blind.

I will argue that we keep Prime for the streaming @Botch, which used to be ad free.  We have talked about canceling prime because we don't like watching commercials and I think it is ridiculous that they just added commercials to a service we are paying for that was previously ad free, but then they will roll something out like Reacher or Fallout and keep us on the hook.

I pay for Prime so they'll stop bugging me with ads for Prime.

Frequently order items for myself and my parents and used to pay for the monthly fee in shipping costs alone. Lately though you have to carefully look at the merchandise prices that the Zoid is charging. You can often order cheaper directly from the manufacturing company even paying shipping.

I think you have the beginning of a great side hustle here @Botch. I'm sure there are a lot of retirees that could benefit from you helping negotiate Sirius/XM renewals, etc. for them.

It’s wild the stuff people buy when they steal your CC info.  After receiving a weird purchase alert via text I called to dispute all the charges of the day, I was informed that I might have to call back and further dispute the charges that were still pending…. “We may need to wait for those to clear.”

A ticket to see Glengarry Glen Ross on Broadway next week.  The cast is crazy.  It’s Bill Burr, Kieran Culkin, Bob Odenkirk, and Michael McKean.

We'll have to play catsup big time if that artificial line disappears, too bad it wasn't drawn with sharpie...many, if not most, of us own zero firearms.

You're not actually that far from the US, percentage-wise, than you might think.

It's like 26% in Canada to 33% in the US.  Most of us down here don't own firearms either.  It's just that the ones who do tend to own many more than one.

I merely consider them a tool I use for recreation. I’m also an avid hunter. So there’s that. And yes, I own enough for about 40 of you to each hold one at the same time
