  • I have a set of cowin noise canceling headphones that have served me well for about 3-4 years.  I’m not overly concerned with sound quality as they just need to muffle and the 70’s-80’s hair bands will drown out the rest.  The swivel on the one side broke, I fixed it with gorilla tape but they no longer go in the case and get left in my office.  My dear sweet wife decided to replace them for me for Christmas, early, and got me Bose quiet comfort noise cancelling ear buds as I wanted to move from over ear headphones.  The noise cancelling for earbuds is darn impressive, problem is I get squelching more frequently than I like if I take calls with them.  They also require their own app and does not connect to multiple devices simultaneously.  So, my wife got me a set of AirPod Pros as I had been looking at those previously due to the ability to bounce between devices.  Noise cancelling is ok, call quality is better, overall sound is obviously not as good.  Have to decide by January as we can send the Bose back, but if I keep them my wife is keeping the AirPods for sure. First world problems as I became accustomed to the Bose after a week, just hated the call quality, but appreciate the ease of use of the apple.

My daily headohones are Sony WH-1000XM3s.  The noise cancelling is great and the sound quality is amazing for wireless.  I used to fly international a lot and these are perfect for that.  When they die, I will get another pair.

My son is getting interested in better audio gear than his gaming headsets so I picked him up a Schitt headphone amp and a DAC plus a set of Beyerdynamic Amiron cans for Christmas.  I might have to give this setup a try before Christmas morning.

Bought one last May so that I always had access to a guitar that didn’t need to be in my humidified guitar room. No regrets. Very happy.
    @GrateEggspectations, I didn't know you played.
And, more importantly, if you have a humidified guitar room, that you haven't posted pics of, you owe us (and if you have, I missed it; link please?)   :o

Not exactly headphones!  I just picked up these Bose 10.2 speakers for the garage.  I had to replace one of the woofer foam surrounds.  They sound awesome - probably the best speakers made by Bose.  I also just added a Yamaha 2070 amp which is also pretty old - high power unit designed for commercial purposes.  This combination of Bose speakers with the Yamaha amp gives me the greatest sound I have ever heard.

I tried to jump on that Shun deal yesterday.  Within 10 minutes of receipt of the email the knife I was targeting was "out of stock".  Perhaps I will a bit quicker next year.

I meant to check yesterday on the Classic series and forgot. Luckily I set a calendar reminder for today when the Premier series launched. It wasn't supposed to start until 11AM EST, but the website was loaded around 10:15 so I was able to grab what I wanted.

Outstanding!   Bose are on my special list.
I have long harboured a desire for certain things and circumstances mean I can start to get through it.  Hence I now have a Saab,  Ok SWMBO is underwhelmed and it will go in the Spring - but ticked off the list none the less.
Santa is bringing me a Carhartt Full Swing jacket,  tick.

Not sure what will come along after but since we might be moving house in early '21, I am hoping for a proper man-cave and associated accoutrement.
If that falls through, a tiny 4x4 to thrash about the local lanes in.

In my previous house, we had a third floor loft that was set up exclusively for musical endeavours. I had a dozen or so guitars sitting out and as many amps and cabs. In the “new” (old) house, I have a much smaller space and had to get creative with placement. Having the guitars up high works out well with the children. Have eight guitars sitting out currently, along with a banjo and cello. The amps are largely stored away in their road cases until I decide what to do with them. Here are a few pics of the room as it’s currently set up. Also included is a pic of the carbon fibre travel guitar (neck breaks away from body) and a few amps that happened to be unboxed. That Marshall is one of my faves - a minty 1973 20 watt that was gifted to me by a recording engineer many years ago along with a 1972 Orange (not pictured). In light of your interest in instruments, I’m also including a shot of my wife’s piano, in the adjacent room, for good measure.

    Very cool collection, @GrateEggspectations!   B)

  • @Botch: Thank you! I like to buy instruments second hand, but insist on great condition and only ever pay what I know they can be resold for (or less, obv). Have been accumulating since my university days, but loved and lost some along the way.

From what I recall, you also did quite a bit of playing in your past. Do you still maintain gear? If so, make with the pics!

I'm not in the market for a new truck, but Jakub and Uri just reviewed the new 2021 F-150 hybrid, and it has some pretty neat features (they hit the unusual stuff in the first 5 minutes):

One of my better buys. Paid roughly two thirds of its used market value at the time of purchase. Always thought I was a staunch strat guy until I laid my hands on this. Was a gigging axe for me for several years.

What I wanted was sold out but I just can’t pass up a deal, wanted the 6” utility and paring knife.  Left with a nikiri they look so good hanging on the wall I couldn’t say no.

I need a good paring knife and they were sold out.  That's probably the only type of knife I have that isn't fancy.
