Nod to the Jonny Lang reference. Was a real talent when he dropped that first album at 16. No idea where he is now, but “Lie to me” is a memorable album.

Nothing gets bees more fired up than stealing their honey and slapping a couple of formic acid patties in between their boxes
What do formic acid patties do?

And how do you cook them, usually?

Jonny Lang played a lot in Moorhead while I was in college there in the mid-1990s. I remember my buddy trying to tell me this kid was 14 years old or something like that and I refused to believe him because he didn't play or sound like that in the least.
I went to a few Moorhead football games, just to watch the cheerleaders shake their pompoms shouting "More-head!  More-head!"   :)
In my younger days I would've posted such a juvenile thing, but I'm now old enough to know better.

Formic acid is found in nature.  It is used by beekeepers to control varroa mites. Among the many things that are detrimental to bees the varroa destructor is the widow maker and must be dealt with for multi year success in beekeeping.  Honey that we harvest is stored in supers above the hive which is a surplus of what they need for over wintering (they need roughly 200lbs in our area).  With supers on you can treat with the formic acid I use, but I pull the supers and process while the acid (slow release patties) are in place mostly for convenience.

  • I also vaporize Oxaclic in the hives around January when there is no capped brood. IPM on the farm they are always lurking.

  • Not right now but going to have to buy a new tv for outside. This one lasted about 2 years. Been super humid the last week or so and I think the moisture caught up to it. Tripped my GFCI in the garage is the only way I knew what happened.

Sam’s/Costco. Get the cheapest whatever size one you want. 5 year warranty with zero questions asked. I’ve replaced 2 in 6 years cus when the new one arrives, you buy another $42 policy on it.

That's some sound advice, right there!  Do you take them back in, or deal with the warranty company?

Guys, REI used to have a "lifetime" guarantee on their outdoor clothing: wear it out, and they'll replace it, forever.  They sustained this model for a long, long time, but eventually they had to cease this practice, for understandable reasons.  Sears/Craftsman went thru a similar readjustment.
Costco will too, eventually.  Just a head's-up.   :|

Don’t let that free engraving go to waste.

True story: My B-I-L once bought an iPad as his wife’s Xmas gift and had it engraved with “I love you, my chunky one” in his mother tongue. He is still married, and she is still very fit.

I doubt that, they have a very different business model.

Costco gets a full refund from their suppliers when an item is returned within X time.  When an item is returned after that, they declare it as a loss and it is deducted from their taxes.  In some cases, on top of being fully refunded by the supplier, they are allowed to send the returned item to a liquidation store, we have a couple of them around here.  Their entire inventory is rotated regularly because they don’t stock multiple models of the same item.

Sears had an endless inventory of stock that nobody wanted.  They were operating at a loss for years.  They made multiple strategic mistakes and instead of focusing on profit making areas of their business, they expanded and made everything worse.

Costco is there to stay, believe me.

Sister lives in Michigan, and has a stone firepit in the backyard (built by previous owner). She also has a cantankerous neighbor, who calls the city fire dept every time she lights it. Fire dept. has come out, been very nice, and apologized that my sis has such a crabby neighbor.

The loophole= cooking fires are allowed, and not covered by the rule/law. So she puts a single hotdog on the spark arrestor thing. Fire dept has given her the thumbs up for this =)
If I had that kind of neighbor I would really have to fight the urge to have wet smoldering nasty wood burning all day everyday. . . with a hotdog nearby. Good grief. They probably can't have bass boats either!
I had a neighbor who had a couple of very annoying dogs that would bark constantly every time they heard me walk out on the back deck- the dogs can't even see me, but they hear me. I got the message across to the dogs owner that this behavior was unacceptable by throwing a old tire in the burn barrel. Thick black choking smoke a few times got their attention.
