I remember seeing some Vipers at the autocross track.  Everyone is ooing and ahhing about them, then they over steer or plow all over the track and get crap times.  Not the car's fault, really. Just a hard car to drive, but in the right hands, can be very fast.
Fun can be had without being the fastest.  I think the new Acura NSX and Lexus LFA prove that point.  Very fast, but boring.  I would say the same thing about a Tesla Model 3.  After 30min of giving myself whiplash it lost some of the joy.

They are unpleasant to drive for transportation and they are hard to keep on the road.  Fun to money ratio is pretty bad, and probably why there aren’t many out there.  All the power to those that like them tho.  I guess.

That's interesting you say that. I think Doug Demuro daily drove his for a year and had positive things to say about it. Casey Putsch also has a daily Viper. I want to say both Vipers were the GTS models. The GTS has more creature comforts than the original Viper. I don't think anyone would want to daily the first gen Viper.
DeMuro has a video on one of the first Vipers ever made.  It’s worth a watch.

Maybe I'm thinking of the early Vipers because I remember there was no option for AC and they were unpleasant like driving a race car.  Haven't really paid much attention to them since and I don't want to unfairly "denigrate" them or anything.

They're pretty much the complete opposite of a Porsche, I just lean towards the German's vision of a sports car....engineering and finesse where the sum of the parts is less than the whole vs dropping a V10 in what looks like a 1960s Jag, extremely front end-heavy car.

Personal tastes are personal.  I think the Hellcat, despite having a cool name, is a travesty.  Never was a drag racing fan tho.

The Hellcat might surpass the Viper for the number of owners/morons who’ve crashed it, occasionally on the drive home from the dealership.

You can daily pretty much anything if you're in the right part of the country and determined. I remember reading about this guy years ago with his C5 Corvette. He put on 773,000 miles on it before donating it.

Other than squeezing in and out through tough egress and a cramped cabin, all you English chaps need is wipers and a heater.  What's your summer average high?  70F?

Different story where I live.  I unlock my truck and it's 130F inside.  Outside it's humid AF and summer highs in the 90s.   If you don't have AC you are on the verge of heat stroke.

Bad news: A neighbour just reported having traded in his R8.

Good news: It will be replaced with an Aventador.

I’ll post pics, assuming it materializes.

God that color is horrific on that car.  Or any car, really.   It reminds me of Carolina fans…

You'd think, there'd be a LOT of slightly-used spare parts available, either right- or left-side...

DD tends to ramble on when he's driving a car, which I've read reduces the car's performance 42%, and tapers down from that.

Hope to see you there.  The brothers are awesome folks.  For those that asked and I didn't answer out of all the cars.  They own all but just a couple.  The child hood friend owns those.  They recently drove the prom girls to the prom in them.  Class act.

I’m assuming they drove the cars, as opposed to handing over the keys to the prom dates?

If they handed me the keys, I would have never made it to prom.  Would have just driven all night.

Lol yea they drove them in.  But seriously the group of guys drive the hyper cars in the winter.  They let people sit in them.  They really welcome the public in general.  The grandfather owns the patent on the plastic bag used inside cereal boxes.  Sold it for a billion plus. Then the boys got it back and doubled it.  So now.  They own hyper cars

70F is a really nice day, 80F is hot, 90F is a heatwave that makes National news. In fact, 80F is probably pretty newsworthy.

Folks, this will be my next vehicle!   B)

My Tacoma is a 2009, only has 63K miles on it, and the dealership offers to buy it from me every time She goes in for sched. Mx. A van would be fine if I ever start gigging again, and would also work for skiing, but with two PEs that probably won't be happening. I definitely want to go electric, and I fell for this in concept form about a year ago.
While stationed in Albuquerque I had a '77 VW Bus, loved that thing. Bought it with new paint for $2,000, replaced one clutch for $850, push-started it once by myself, got blown off the Interstate in it, and sold it five years later for $2,000! (I was PCSing to Grand Forks ND and decided a real heater would be nice)

EDIT: Oh yeah, just for the record: my Audi's headlights rotate too upon startup, but up-n-down depending on speed.

Nice ride. It will probably take a couple of years before it is available in the US though.

I would love a diesel version of that!  As a 16 year old, I owned a 1968 bus.  I had grand plans until I totaled my 86 vw gti.  I had to sell wrecked car and bus to get another running vehicle.

Don’t patents only have a life of 20 years?  This sounds like they’re telling a story.

Inventing something doesn’t always mean that you always profit. A relative of mine with a physics doctorate and 2 engineering masters was cited in patents when they interned during undergraduate. Since then the later work has been cited nearly 900 times by other researchers.
