Not quite true. Al Kooper walked away when the record company tried to wrestle away control of the production of the future albums. Only the first BS&T album was Kooper. The later travesties (David Clayton Thomas?) never matched up.

For a good read find a copy of "Backstage Passes and Backstabbing Ba*tards".
    Thanks for the clarification.   :)

My first single was Joan Jett and the blackheart's "I love Rock'n'Roll"

    First full album was "Thriller"

PS- Can we start making fun of each other on this thread or will folks get feelings hurt?

I'll start. Thriller? Really? Didn't you see what was coming? (pun intended)

How do people like the worlds worst band? aka KISS.  (I like heavy metal but not garbage rock). Jeez.  I taken farts that write better songs.

I'm not a metal-head either, but, what's your definition of music?
To me (being an engineer) it is "using sound to elicit an emotional response in another human being".  KISS can do that.  So could Dream Theater, Hank Williams, BT, Bach, Miles, and Public Enemy.
There's also something to be said for Entertainment value.  I wonder if either Elvis or Michael Jackson would have been as popular, if we only heard them, and hadn't seen them.  KISS was pretty damn good at that too, although they admit themselves they stumbled onto the formula as they went along.  Simmons and Stanley are among the richest musicians of all time, although that's not as much of a yardstick of musical worth.

Geez, I'm babbling again.  I made fun of you (regarding a band I have no albums of, either; did see them in concert and had a blast!) so you can make fun of me too.  My top five groups are Steely Dan, Level 42, Earth Wind & Fire, Tower of Power, and fifth place is a 17-way tie; blast away.   =)

    1.
I was given this cassette tape when I was in second grade. Still love this era of country music although it is not my preferred genre now.
“Country boy can survive” is An absolute classic. “All my rowdy friends” turned out to be a great one as well.

Apparently my thumb disagreed when scrolling. My ears not so much. A few of those songs were played out in my garage within the last week.

I hope everyone's being honest here and posting their actual first album, and not just classic albums they think are cool. Mine was objectively not cool, but it was mine... and it was my first. I was 12.

    Rare Earth In Concert.
Remains one of my favorites today. It was my first selection of my first time buying albums.

My second selection on that day was Let it Bleed from The Rolling Stones.it, too, remains one of my favorites.

Ron, was this the album where the Rare Earth singer begged the people to get out of the pool because of the power wires? Had it on 8-track, great sound.

Ha ha! Mine was totally honest. Hank Williams jr “the pressure is on “ cassette.  That was my first album. My first vinyl was a 45 single ..rod stewart “passion” with snowblind (I think)  on the other side.
My first cd was a Giant album “last of the runaways “ which was pretty terrible except for maybe one song. It was a gift with the new CD player.

    Do 78's count?

The first LP's I remember getting was a collection of the "greatest" classical music. To this day clasi al is my favorite genre. But I also appreciate lots of other music, and my collection (all CD and mp3) now also contains jazz and rock from many decades.

Apologies to Botch: it may fit your definition, but I don't consider rap to be music.

I’m not a huge fan myself, but curious about these definitions people seem to have that exclude it.  I think some people just don’t like it and maybe try to feel better about that.  @sumoconnell didnt say KISS wasn’t music, just said it’s crappy music and something g about farts that can write songs.

I don’t like Air Supply.  There, I said it.

Embarrassing , but first album I ever bought was Jagged Little Pill by Alanis Morrisete.  I was 14 when it came out, so I was alive during Grunge, IMHO the best era of music.  I grew up in the 80s listening to 60s and 70s rock with my dad, and consider Zeppelin my favorite band of all time . But I think Grunge is the best and was the last great era of music .
