This is clearly a draconian measure you have taken.  Punishing the entire community for the actions of one individual is unjust.  Members of the community did make a sincere effort at restraining the offender.  Credit should be acknowledged for those efforts.
Your letting the thread die is obviously offending this community.  That should be given its due consideration.

@johnnyp Thanks for the kind words. I understand what you are saying. I enjoy seeing other folks cook simple meals as well. Heck, we all (well - most of us) gather here because we love food and love to cook.

What I was really asking about is the non-cooks. For example:
As a teacher I always must have a number of days of continuing education each summer. I struggle to find good professional development through my service center. There are very few physics workshops and zero workshops for computer science or research and design that I also teach. The consequence is I am always looking for PD that is interesting and useful. I REFUSE to just attend a workshop to accrue time and that is not beneficial.

So - here's the part to share. I found an online class from Harvard through edX. It is "Science & Cooking: From Haute Cuisine to Soft Matter Science (physics)
This class is a hoot - but don't take it if you don't enjoy the science in cooking. An example of stuff we are learning is how we control the viscosity of different materials. Looking at the role of gluten in bread, we got into how the glutenin molecules join through sulphur bonds, how kneading aligns the gluten strands, how salt affects the some of the ionically charged amino acids, and how bonds such as Van Der Waals forces hold gluten strands together.
Nerdy stuff I can use in class that relates to the cooking I also enjoy.

Anyway - we need a place to share this kind of stuff...
    Coleman, Texas
Large BGE & Mini Max for the wok. A few old camp Dutch ovens and a wood fired oven. LSG 24” cabinet offset smoker. There are a few paella pans and a Patagonia cross in the barn. A curing chamber for bacterial transformation of meats...
"Bourbon slushies. Sure you can cook on the BGE without them, but why would you?"

@SciAggie  I miss understood your intent, and agree that a communal threads is a great repository for that kind of information.

The off topic stuff was my favorite.  I feel like I really got to know everyone.  That made the rest of the threads more enjoyable.

I agree with @Johnnyp that your "week night" cooks make my best efforts pale by comparison!

What's the difference between Lit and a cactus?  The prick on the cactus doesn't burn down everyone's favorite thread because he's a butthurt sissy b!tch.  Or something.
Coming from a guy that looks like a dirty hippy chic and trolls the forum. I might stay for a week of you are really leaving.

@SciAggie I have the same problem gaining PDHs for me engineering license right now. Our two state summer convention would have provided enough hours including the mandatory one hour lecture on ethics. It was postponed twice, the second time until next summer. It wasn’t really necessary for government engineers, like I formerly was. They have had their own convention and a state wide one held at the equivalent of Detroit (expensive and somewhat hazardous) prequarantine. I guess I will have to spend a fortune on online classes. Fortunately I age out of the PDH requirement after this year.

@Lit.  I went on your page and saw your first discussion was from Sept 2010.  After being here a decade, with near 8000 posts, I'm sorry to see you've decided to say farewell with so much contempt toward this online community. I wish you well in the future.

    I don’t think we’ll hear from @The_Buffalo

I think he’s waiting this one out in his bunker, or at least waiting until the park is cleared.  Probably shooting some sweet bbq videos.  Or maybe he’s on the rooftop, busy protecting HQ from the people in the streets in case they head that way.

    It’ll pass.  It always does.
    Love you bro!

Perhaps just start a new one with the same title and include a link to the original?

That’s so dumb and such a freaking shame.

    I’ll name names.

Shame in @YukonRon and @DoubleEgger for driving @lit to blow it all up.

@thetrim I appreciate the sentiment and support.  However, neither @YukonRon nor @DoubleEgger deserve to be called out.  They may have been involved, but it was on another thread.  The discussion was heated on both sides, only one person choose to go burn down the other thread.  I count both of them as friends and know they would never have thought this would be the outcome.

We all make mistakes, we all pick fights we shouldn't (believe me I know and have done it myself), and we poke at just the wrong time.

The world is crazy right now, and tempers are much shorter than usual.

In the end, it is what it is.  Hopefully, @The_Buffalo will reinstate it, but if not, I will start a new one as suggested by other members.

Ron is a much better person than I am by how he handled it. Michael is not. He called me a racist because he naturally assumed when i said rioter i meant black people and that wasnt the case at all. Most of the people the cop tried to run into were white. All he had to do was apologize when he was wrong. I can post the screen shot again if i need to showing where he assumed they were black. The What are you doing thread was where 90% of my post went also i didnt really think it would get sunk. Much worse things have happened on that thread than the couple posts i did and i had already stopped posting.

Legit question. Are you a racist? I highly suspect you aren't and if not then who the frik cares what someone said about you, honestly? Just get over it. Don't let what someone said about you on a BBQ forum ruin your week like it appears to be doing. I've said some dumbarse stuff on here too. Most of the time just being a douche but sometimes I was legit wrong in my thinking and apologized to someone I offended. Just let it go man you will feel better and quit waiting on others to apologize. The world aint perfect and you don't always get what you want out of a situation.

This had nothing to do with @DoubleEgger. Michael has been, and always will be a very logical, and well educated, voice of reason, and has always shown restraint.

You want to blame anyone, then blame me. Leave Michael out of it.

There are many on this forum not fond of my positions, thoughts, posts, whatever.

I have zero ill will towards any of them. Never have, never will. They either feel good or bad about it, either way, that is on them.

If you, or anyone, has become offended, that is not my intention.

Nobody has ever made my posts required reading, nobody has ever asked for permission to respond either.

I will take the blame anyone wishes to direct.

Just leave Michael out of it.

Thank you and fire at will.

Im not racist at all and yes most things I can let go easily but being called a racist because someone assumed i meant black people when I said rioters really pissed me off after I started thinking about it.

WOW....To be honest, when I first clicked on this thread I figured it was the resident loudmouth(s) that usually stir the pot. Boy was I wrong. @Lit , I understand your frustrations. There are a lot of high and mighty on here that think they are superior to the rest of us, which is hilarious, just because we have different opinions. Consider the source and let it go. About all you can do. Have a good one!

You may want to re-visit these posts. There were several instances where Lit claimed to have it so much better than the rest of us. His life is awesome and he has it so much better than other members. So if anyone was flexing their "I'm better than you" it was Lit.
