You thought people freaked out about no toilet paper.  Went to the market today and they were almost completely out of all non-processed meat options.  I am talking chicken, pork, beef, fish, etc.  Glad I know how to cook pretty much any type or cut of protein because I suspect it will be slim Pickens for a while.... Or should say, I know where to ask about cooking weird cuts ;)

That was the case in my off-base supermarket two weeks ago, not even any lunchmeats, but I went yesterday again and they were essentially back to normal.  Odd.

The only meat my friends Walmart had left was chicken thighs and cow tongue at one point.

Sounds like sensationalism from the boss at Tyson. Plants around here have been dumping/giving away/selling dirt cheap their excess because the restaurants aren’t buying. Wholesalers are selling to the public to move inventory. Seems like a far cry from a real shortage.

I'm thinking maybe it's not good for sick people to be standing shoulder to shoulder handling raw food.  I would assume that meat processing can be done safely (like a lot of things) with some thoughtful modifications to the process... perhaps at reduced capacity.

Unfortunately had to make a trip to Costco yesterday ....... I was there right as it opened trying to beat the line.  The cut steaks / meats were pretty much gone.  I got the last pack of flank steak.  There were only two tri tips, and three packs of chicken breast left.  Otherwise it was all whole strips, tenderloins, briskets, etc.  Not a big deal for me since I have a food saver, deep freeze, and a big family, but I didnt see many folks wanting to drop $100+ on those big cuts.  They had plenty of seafood.  Oh there was one pack of ground beef left and a guy elbowed his way into the meat line, grabbed it, and scurried away like it was bag of stolen money.....ahole.

I really wanted some pork butts so I went down the street to Sam's.  It was complete cleared out.  There were a few pork loins, and that was it.  The 40-50ft long meat case was bare white.

I live close to two Kroger’s (15 miles either way) one in my county and one in a county north of us. my county has had 15 cases, the County north has has 63 but the better Kroger. Needless to say I went south.
Most of the chicken was gone with the exception of expensive Amish brand, I glanced at the beef and could see plenty of empty shelf, there was more toilet paper than I have ever seen, micro brewery selection was very limited, during the hunt for qtips I was in a isle that I don’t normally navigate and saw a lady in her 60s cough open mouth all over a shelf of products uggh.

A friend was at a butcher in Columbus and picked me up two butts. I smoked one the other night, it was boneless and in three pieces held together with a net. Without disassembling I’m 99% sure they are pork loins tied up together. It was actually quite good, obviously leaner and very little of the big chunks of fat normally on a butt.

Well, the beans and pasta made it back on the store shelves and I can buy soft paper again for my undercarriage before all heII broke loose at home. I’m sure this too will generate some overreaction-driven shortages and recover before I have to start trappin’ squirrels (apologies Kentucky and W Virginia, this is just not normal everywhere else).

Shop strategically.  As overheard in Costco when this first started a few months back, a husband was chastising his wife for wanting to load up on sleeves of canned tuna, “Tuna is useless without mayo and pickle relish and we won’t have refrigeration if we lose power - YOU HAVE TO THINK SURVIVAL!!”

I wonder if they loaded up on steaks?
    Love you bro!

It's not unheard of around here, for people to steal cattle out of fields at night. I know a few farmers that have had this happen to them. They get shot and quartered with a chainsaw on the spot. In and out 30-40 minutes tops...
I suspect this will increase within the next few months.

I'm glad the farmers caught them, but man chainsaws? that's messy.

On a serious note I read that a farmer up the road shot two guys breaking into his barn the other night, according to the paper they were driving away in a pickup truck and he shot them through the cab.... we will see how that plays out.

My closest Kroger was about half out so I Grabbed 5lbs of chicken breast, a flat iron, and about 4lbs of ground beef. Now my Freezer is 3/4 full with all kinds of stuff in case there is a shortage.

This will only get worse. Might be time to go in on a steer to go with the lamb we just got, but not sure I have room for a freezer even if I could find one.

One of my coworkers and his buddies are headed out tomorrow to buy 5 hogs for 100/. They will butcher them up amongst themselves. They are doing so as much to help out those pleading on FB to avoid euthanatizing them as they are for their own advantage. You should see the Sh** show about how terrible they are.  Can’t please everyone I guess. Hundreds of thousands commented I guess. I’m not on FB so I cannot confirm. Sounds about right though

My local stores (Food Depot and Publix) have plenty of meat.  Sometimes there is a shortage on ground beef, but nothing beyond that.  Today I bought a large pack of fryer wings (flats and drums), extra lean ground beef, and a pack of center cut pork chops.

Our Costco in Reno had 2 double packages of tri tips, a few boneless pork butts and some pork loins. Not much. No ground beef and not much chicken.

I purchased 3 of the chicken breast packages, leaving 4 for others, a couple of pork loins and the last of the tri tip.

And yes, we have a generator.
