I mean do folks really imagine Clinton appointing a labradooodle breeder to manage the government’s response to a pandemic?
    But her emails.  And Bhengazi.

Also, she's an intelligent, powerful woman and therefore exceptionally frightening to a lot of folks.

But this is just a question of basic competence and judgment. I mean if someone could convince me that there was a good chance she would have done that, or even that they just *believed* that she would, I would like to hear that argument.  Bill certainly had his crony appointments too, but this is a position that actually matters.  It’s not the ambassador to the Vatican we’re talking about here.

    No. Mexican hairless cats maybe.

Right so you’ll joke about it, but that’s where the water’s edge is for you.  You’re making my point.

I'm quite sure Clinton would appoint another career politician whose gotten rich off our dime for the job.

But maybe not a dog breeder?

I mean, doodles are awesome dogs, so if you're gonna appoint a dog breeder, a doodle breeder is a good choice.

There are plenty of dogs out there that need to be rescued. Unless it's for work or sport there is no need for more dog breeding.

For me, a lot of it is about why you want the job. At the end of the day, the President is a federal employee, he is a public servant. I disagree with most of the policy positions of both of the last two GOP presidents, but I respect W a hell of a lot more because he viewed himself and the job as a service.

I don’t think Trump as any interest in governing; he wants to campaign and be showered with adulation from his supporters and he wanted the first line in his obituary to be that he won the biggest thing you can win.

But based on what?  Is there a history of her or her husband putting people like that in charge of important jobs in the government?  Again I'm not talking about throwaway ambassadorships or stuff like that, but appointments like this that actually matter.

I mean just to draw a comparison to the last administration, Obama's DOE Secretary was an MIT Professor of nuclear physics.  Trump's first DOE Secretary was a dude who was a career politician and who managed to get a D in a course titled "Meat" from Texas A&M.  There's a pretty big difference there.

Yesterday Gov. Cuomo again pointed out that the NY infection was a newer strain of CV, which came from Italy.  While trump clamped down on flights from China very quickly, it took him over thirty days, over thirty days, to do the same for European air traffic.  Don't put trump's failure on Cuomo.

And I will bump this exchange two weeks from now, when all the early-reopening states (including my own) spike into the hundreds of thousands of hospitalizations and trump points to his written guidance, which he won't support verbally now, as his excuse.  I'll be anxious to hear your story, then.

These clowns in the Trump White House fit a friggin cubic polynomial to the data to make a model they’re using to make policy decisions.  We might as well be asking fifth graders to draw up plans for the next generation of tactical nukes.

The last four years have provided the uninitiated an abject lesson in logical fallacies - most notably ad hominem, strawman, hasty generalization, appeal to authority and bandwagon - on repeat. They are a prevalent and recurring feature of communication by the current administration (including in most if not all of the tweets and interview clips that I had viewed within this thread after they had been linked by others).

Such fallacies, common errors in reasoning that undermine logic, were first illustrated to us by one of humankind’s greatest minds over two millennia ago. However, they remain indiscernible to or, perhaps more injuriously, disregarded by many of us today. If you have never ventured to do so, perform the exercise of tracking even a sample of your candidates’ or elected officials’ statements against at least the most easily perceptible logical fallacies. Doing so will give you a much greater sense of the relative strength of these individuals’ arguments and conversely, of the extent to which they either deliberately or incompetently employ these fallacies to prop up unsound policy positions, discredit opponents or even mislead populations.

There is perhaps no greater affront to the concepts of democracy and of truth than the routine and casual acceptance of these fallacies by citizens, irrespective of which side of the political aisle they sit on - likely why Aristotle recognized their inherent importance and felt so compelled to pursue their study and documentation for generations to come. Let us ensure that we are putting the timeless and invaluable wisdom he has shared to good use.

That whooshing sound while the American BBQ forum member balances a Bud Light on his belly hump while binge watching Leave it to Beaver and *NOT* wondering why 3rd order polynomials with an R^2 value under 0.25 are blatant institutional lies....kill me now.
