@Legume my extended family has been burned lately with expensive chemotherapy for two of our members lately. One finally got an experimental treatment approved. It initially shrunk the tumor by half at the price of unbearable skin rashes and mouth ulcers so bad that she couldn’t eat. The cancer must have adapted because it started regrowing a few months latter.

Sorry to learn of all of that.  Cancer sucks.

Though I wonder what the price per patient Remdesivir will be going for and if people’s insurance will cover the cost as it’s an experimental drug.

Finally, there's the question of how much that will cost. As of today, we don't know how much Gilead intends to charge for remdesivir in the US or elsewhere. In CEO Daniel O'Day's April letter that revealed the existing stockpile, he wrote that the company "is providing the entirety of this existing supply at no cost, to treat patients with the most severe symptoms of COVID-19. The 1.5 million individual doses are available for compassionate use, expanded access, and clinical trials and will be donated for broader distribution following any potential future regulatory authorizations."

A recent study published in the Journal of Virus Eradication attempts to analyze the cost of manufacturing remdesivir. The authors looked at the chemical synthesis of the drug and concluded that a 10-day course for one person would cost $9, allowing for 20 percent losses during formulation, plus the cost of the vials, a profit margin, and tax. However, whether it costs Gilead that to actually produce the drug is unknown, and one needn't be a scholar of the US healthcare system to be skeptical that a novel treatment would end up being quite so cheap

Like any drug dealer the first one's on the house. I'm just in a cynical mood today so take that into account.

The "Believe All Women" movement seems to have ended as quickly as it began.
Especially amongst those who never believed women in the first place.  Funny how that works.
Good point John, but we certainly aren’t seeing a massive uprising from the left about this issue.

That furious humming sound we heard, yesterday, was the Senate members of both parties transferring funds to Gilead Sciences stock.

Perhaps.  But unfortunately it's pretty far from a panacea.  From the article:

"Results also suggested a survival benefit, with a mortality rate of 8.0% for the group receiving remdesivir versus 11.6% for the placebo group," the NIAID said.

I heard the mortality rates are statistically a wash, it just all happens 30% faster....walking out of the hospital or wheeled out in a box.

I’m not watching Faux News every night either but a quick google tells me there’s a deafening silence from the left. There certainly isn’t the constant barrage in the news cycle like there was for Kavanaugh, instead you get Politico publishing about how they’re aren’t burying the Biden story. They certainly aren’t trumpeting it either.

When a vacuous twit like Alyssa Milano was ready to hang Kavanaugh when that story broke, but then comes out and says Biden deserves the benefit of the doubt, the irony and hypocrisy amaze me.

I think part of the reason the Reade story isn't making more of a splash in "primetime news" is obviously due to the pandemic and the debacle it has become in the US.
There is also a good reason (at least for the moment) to not be trumpeting her accusations as her story(ies) and actions/motives/responses are being found to be rather "slippery".

Sure does feel like a deflection from Trump’s debacle on the virus.

This women kept quiet while Biden was VP for EIGHT years. You wait until he’s the nominee before you say anything?  Sounds to me like she was paid off by the GOP to come out now. I’d venture to say that this plan has been in the works since the Cavanaugh hearings.

Fair enough, Mike.  I’m glad to hear you’re not coming to this point of view via Faux News:

I do follow him on one of the accounts I have, and the above screencaps are legit tweets.  They aren’t made up, unfortunately.  It seems clear he tuned into MSNBC late last night and Brian Williams said something that set him off.

I believe the cowardly flagger is a retired person who, if he gets up early, it’s only to get on the golf course.
