"Its the flu. 58,000 people die of the flu and pneumonia each year in the US. This is being hyped by the dems to make Trump look bad before the election. If Biden or Bernnie get in how fast will all this go away?"

    Winning comment. Totally.

    Here is the Answer:
Much faster than Trump could ever do it.

The Democrats have no need to to make Trump seem like an imbecile, he is doing a masterful job of this on his own. this may be the final straw for many.

We have known this virus was NOT contained in China since the first week of the New Year. Yet the president chose to do nothing.

To categorize this pandemic as the typical type influenza that evolves every "cold and flu season" which an appreciable portion of the population is inoculated against, with a .1% mortality rate...... is, at best, a very uninformed statement.

So far, based on the numbers from The WHO, the corona virus has a mortality rate that may go higher than its current .36% (Most are saying globally as high as 4.0%). It is likely to do so, since there is no vaccine available and the virus can mutate as it spreads to other highly populated areas with limited resources for medical care.

Since the global notification back in January, and the President doing nothing, the stock market has crashed, we are heading into a recession, the virus continues to spread exponentially across America every single day, and Americans are dying because of it.

Democratic hype of grave danger? If it is, and it shames the president to do something other than, of course, blame the democrats, we all should be thankful.

Wash your hands, do not touch your face, and stay away from people. That is all we have. The travel ban is only about 2 and a half months too late.
There is nothing anyone could have done to prevent this. Maybe they could have delayed it a little but this crap has been here since December it just took time to blow up.
    Love you brother.

Here is the deal. I have a very close relationship with someone, for the United States of America in the diplomatic service.

This person works for the republican administration. This person's office is in our embassy in Rome. This person's job is walking point on the Corona virus in Italy for the United States.

When we left Italy on the 3rd of January, this person was dispatched immediately to the north to investigate a report of a rapidly spreading deadly disease.

This person filed reports directly to the ambassador, who subsequently reported them to POTUS, directly.

This person has been face to face with this situation in Italy since January 3, 24/7/every freaking day,  sending reports that were as staggering as they were morbid.

This person deemed this as a major threat to the United States of America, in every report offered to the ambassador since day freaking one, and was on several conference calls explaining the issue to the POTUS and his staff.

The embassy in Italy was not alone, other United States embassies were uncovering this virus, globally, and literally screamed as they pleaded for the president to act immediately.

    He did not.

You may say and be satisfied that this would have happened anyway.

However witholding information from the American public, lying again and blaming democrats for this debacle is at the very least absurd.

Anyone that stands with this guy stands against America.

Any other country on the face of this planet besides Russia and North Korea, he would be put in prison for life.

He freaking knew. And he did nothing. Every embassy begged him to take immediate action.

People are now dying. Many American's dream of retirement is gone. Yet the Republuddites keep following this lying cheating sack of fecal matter.

He and his family have made billions. How is your 401K today?
What could he have done? The only thing I see they dropped the ball on is the tests.
Testing is the most important element of response. Without aggressive testing, people with mild cases go to work, ride public transit, cough and sneeze on neighbors, and the thing spreads like wildfire. The countries that have managed to curb the spread have done so in large part because they have implemented widespread testing protocols. Also, testing is not the only thing we've screwed up. Not by a longshot.

I've read that the US has only done 10,000 tests total to date while South Korea has been doing 10,000 tests PER DAY for at least a couple of weeks.
That happens when a country has leadership that is concerned about the health and well being of their fellow citizens. Whereas, having a leader that considers it all a hoax and fake news and a plot to make him look bad "leads" to a different result.

Borders should have been shut way back in December when we first learned of this. Like straight locked nobody in or out.

Nobody, not even the Chinese, was aware of the magnitude of the problem at that time. China didn't even lockdown Wuhan and some other cities until January 23rd.

This is nucking futz!  Civil Engineering/Infrastructure is not my specialty at all, but due to a good-ole-boy promotion structure where I work, I've been working MILCON (military construction) for the past four years, and have learned a lot.  Buildup of infrastructure, in China, no doubt is totally different due to legal, financial, regulatory, environmental, etc differences; but there is no way a hospital can be built, and made operational, in less than a week (save a MASH unit, which doesn't require 3 dozen backhoes....)

    Meanwhile in the US 03/05/20

    SEATTLE —

Health officials here thought they found a fine place to quarantine COVID-19 patients: a motel that was up for sale.

This week King County completed the $4-million purchase of an Econo Lodge in Kent, Wash., a diverse, lower-income community of 130,000 just south of Seattle.

“We hope to have it operational within days,” County Executive Dow Constantine announced Wednesday at a news conference on the mounting coronavirus deaths. Officials said it could house up to about 80 patients.

But the plan has created a firestorm of opposition in Kent, where community leaders feel blindsided.

I agree this shouldn't be a political thing but when just one hour ago our Dear Leader tweets this sort of stuff (which is typical for him) it's hard to avoid the politics of the efforts to respond. The big surprise to me is that his tweet didn't also include his claim that the crowds at his inauguration were the largest ever. Period.

The bad part is he knows how stupid the average American is. Many of them believe him. I have said I have nonpolitical affiliation and I don’t. I have a degree in finance and I know much more is based on perception than reality which is why Trump has succeeded.

SWMBO was working at East Jefferson today and was getting a patient that was exhibiting symptoms.  He ended up testing positive.  However, he also ended needing to go on a ventilator so he would have been diverted to ICU.  He ultimately went to the COVID-19 unit.

Her hospital went from zero patients a day ago to 5 today.  Oshner has 30 now.  A week ago we had one patient in the entire metropolitan area.  Next week there may be 100.  Week after 1000.

My buddy got back from Italy and I helped him fix his BMW bike.  Hell, I might be coming down with it.

In normal times we have a metric ****-ton of food.  I'm not worried about starvation.  We just can't visit SWMBO's 93 yo mom, and that's hard because she has one foot in the grave as it is.

If something happens....so long and thanks for all the fish!

Just reading that the Governor of Michigan has ordered the closing of all K-12 schools (public and private) to students beginning 3/16 thru 4/5.
Saw that. Some small handful of counties in WA as well.

San Francisco just closed all public schools too.

If we are eventually going to close, it seems like a better decision to close now.

CA Governor had this to say:

"It's a question of when — not if — some California public schools will face closure because of COVID-19,"

I'm personally having a hard time with that statement.

MANY AMERICANS DREAM OF RETIREMENT IS GONE!!
      Really?
If you are in your 60s...and your 401K has lost 20-25% of its value.....yeah things get tight, which means another several years for folks to work (hopefully) to regain what was lost.

I am fine, but I know many who are not, now.

So yeah, their dream to retire at 62 ain't happening.

Well this seems a little disconcerting:

"A study published in The Lancet, a British medical journal, indicates patients with the novel coronavirus could remain infectious for as long as 37 days.

Experts have recommended an isolation period of 14 days after exposure, but the new research indicates the virus’s RNA was detectable in respiratory samples from survivors for a median length of 20 days after infection, according to the study.

These results carry “important implications for both patient isolation decision-making and guidance around the length of antiviral treatment,” wrote co-author Fei Zhou of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences."

Back then all of Congress was focused on this little sideshow. Priorities you know.
Congress ain't in charge of closing the borders, chief.
From what they have said they disagree.

Right, I wonder what the truth is?  There must be some way we could find out...
