I’m happy to meet anyone, though my time there tends to be largely consumed by work for the DOE.thetrim said:@llrickman you and @JohnInCarolina should get together the next time he’s in ABQ"I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike

Thank you @Botch - that is beautiful, brilliant and spot on.Botch said:
I thought we had plans in place, especially after the other recent outbreaks. The virus is now present in every state save WV, so I'm thinking the horse has already left the barn.JohnInCarolina said:
These kind of things are avoidable with proper planning and execution. Unfortunately we have neither. Watching it happen in another country only to repeat their mistake is abysmal.
And, since this thread is sinking, I'll post this viciously funny video I saw this morning. NSFW, but we're all at home right now anyway, right?

Which Democratic politician has said that they’re happy the American people are being subjected to this?llrickman said:
You are 100% correct. Liberals have even said this is their opening. its a sad sad day when a political party is wishing something like this on the American peoplelousubcap said:Not trying to lessen the concern here as the virus is moving extremely quickly and will continue for a while. But to what extent is the population hype fueled by the media hype?? I don't know the right balance but I am confident that the constant exposure to the media hype is only compounding the populace and its fear.
Its the flu. 58,000 people die of the flu and pneumonia each year in the US. This is being hyped by the dems to make Trump look bad before the election. If Biden or Bernnie get in how fast will all this go away?
There I said it. Flame on!
Them and the media have weaponized this for political gain I just hope people remember it when election time is here"I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike

We haven’t really been talking about COVID-19 too much in front of the children. We’ve talked about hand-washing and about the fact that there is a little sickness going around, but to my recollection, that is it. Didn’t want to scare them.
This morning, as my wife and I are having our coffee, my five year old daughter comes down the stairs to the kitchen belting out a melody at the top of her voice, singing “Coronavirus, Coronavirus, etc.” Almost spit our coffee out laughing. No idea where she got that. -

Today, Virginia Governor Northam banned events of more than 100 people. Also today, the CDC made an official recommendation that all gatherings of more than 50 people be canceled for the next 8 weeks.Would be nice if all these state/federal officials would set up a coordinating/clearing house for the best way to respond.

Anyone on here a physician involved in their State advisory board or Dept of Health?
I've got a buddy in MI on the state medical board and she says that they have been advised Trump is considering a 2-week nationwide in home quarantine for all but health related visits and grocery store trips.
From the Trump perspective of the only thing that matters is Trump and getting re-elected, it would make some sense. He isn't afraid to push all of his chips in and this would be pretty much equivalent to that.
He's effed this up every way possible so far, only chance at a save is to take drastic action that he can later point at as saving millions or even billions of American lives.
It'd suck for 2 weeks, but if it 'flattens the curve' it'd be a strong move.

Draconian as it may seem, that’s the move that will likely help the most. And rolling out testing for more folks, not just those who have symptoms.Spaightlabs said:Anyone on here a physician involved in their State advisory board or Dept of Health?

What’s being missed is that influenza was/is not nearly as virulent. The spread of this needs to be checked.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX. -
Agree 100%. We need to do now that which we will be required to do if it continues unchecked. Half-azzing it won't do the job.

NFW — makes too much sense and he doesn’t have the stones. He’ll sooner delay the November election (wink, wink) before being collared with tanking the economy for 2 weeks in the name of public health. But I’d love to hear him botch Kushner’s crappy speech rolling it out.caliking said:

Thanks, I've been wondering about this. Just yesterday Dr. Fauci himself told the press he didn't need a test because he felt fine; and I'm "huh???" To have the greatest medical minds (and those other two guys) crowding together on a podium on a daily basis, using the same mic/podium, really scares me.caliking said:

Incubation period ( exposure to symptoms) was looking like 2-3 weeks initially, but may be as short as 5 days. The shorter the better, as that may limit exposure.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX. -
Any idea what the period is between initial exposure, and when you can pass it onto someone else (pre-symptoms)?caliking said:

Latest news in CA is that six counties are required to "shelter in place" until April 7.

Not yet. But it’s understood that people are contagious before clinical symptoms are apparent. Median incubation time is 5 days, so one could be contagious within days of being exposed.Botch said:
