I’d go with option 3, which is that we have a President who apparently needs to be told that accepting stolen election materials from a foreign enemy is actually against the law.

The fact that our government tries to influence foreign elections really isn't much of an excuse for refusing to do anything about an external state trying to influence ours.  It's a bit of a red herring.

Didn't mean to derail a perfectly good thread subject. Also not trying to defend what I agree is completely bonkers. The FEC needs some real teeth to do their job, but at this point nothing DT says or does is shocking. It's like watching James Holzhauer on Jeopardy - boring.

I was just expressing amusement at our government officials getting their panties in a twist over something our own government does more than any other. Invoking the FF's is like quoting scripture, who isn't outraged!

If we aren’t going to allow them to become US citizens, what is the point of educating them? To staff our economic competitors in other countries? I find that stupid and short sighted. To deny the best while favoring grandparents and in laws of other immigrants with no further qualifications?

Good Lord, a good percentage of them do become US citizens!    They get their degrees in the US, then they get work visas, then green cards, and finally... become citizens.  It's a key part of workforce development in the US and... legal immigration. 

We have the best and the brightest come to the US for their education, and then we let them stay and work here (most want to), and if all goes well, they become citizens.  It is one of the smarter things we do as a country.  The short-sighted action is to put obstacles in front of that.

We also want to stop overseas students from staying on to reduce immigration numbers. Headlines beat common sense in politics these days.

I’m sorry, what have I said that would lead you to believe I don’t know the difference between the Steele dossier and activities initiated by Russians, attempting to interfere in our election.  You have allowed your mind to conflate the activities of the Russians with Trump’s willingness to receive information.

But now that you mention it, the Russians providing misinformation to Steele, who in turn provided it to Hilary, whose intent was to gather information on a political opponent in order to affect the election IS the Russians attempting to interfere with our election.

I think you clearly understand these are two separate things, I'm not questioning that.  What I'm questioning is whether or not you understand why one of them is legal, while the other is not.  

After all, what started this engaging and not at all boring to everyone else tete-a-tete between the two of us was me posting the letter from the FEC, and you stating that it must be referring to the DNC and the Clinton campaign.
