Out of interest, what percentage of people in the US routinely carry a firearm for personal protection?

According to the numbers there's about 17.2 million with a conceal carry permit.  Obviously not every one of those is going to carry daily and some carry daily without a permit but that's a good ballpark figure.

I only don’t carry in mandatory soft target zones.  Hospitals mainly.  I practice every month.  Hate being a soft target every week.  Guns are never unsecured.  Some people just cling to what they read or wish was true.

My permit has no restrictions but appreciate you being law abiding as is my wife.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Law_Enforcement_Officers_Safety_Act

Actually there are some exceptions/restrictions under LEOSA that you may need to refamiliarize yourself with.
You are correct. I have found that if challenged and show my permit that the challenge goes away.

    Concealed means concealed.
Hey look, another cop with a God complex. You are not above the law no matter how much you think you are entitled.

Although LEOSA preempts state and local laws, there are two notable exceptions: "the laws of any State that (1) permit private persons or entities to prohibit or restrict the possession of concealed firearms on their property" (such as a bars, private clubs, amusement parks, etc.), or "(2) prohibit or restrict the possession of firearms on any State or local government property, installation, building, base, or park"[1][10][11][12]Additionally, LEOSA does not override the federal Gun-Free School Zone Act(GFSZA) which prohibits carrying a firearm within 1,000 feet of elementary or secondary schools unless the individual possessing the firearm is licensed to do so by the State in which the school zone is located or a political subdivision of the State. Although the GFSZA authorizes on-duty law enforcement officers to carry firearms in such circumstances, off-duty and retired law enforcement officers are still restricted from doing so unless they have a firearms license issued from the state in which they reside and then it is only good for the state in which they reside.[13] Individuals must also obey any federal laws and federal agency policies that restrict the carrying of concealed firearms in certain federal buildings and lands, as well as federal regulations prohibiting the carriage of firearms on airplanes.[12]

One in every 15, give or take.  Lots of super safe people walking around over here, obviously.

Man I despise liberals. Shouldn’t u have fled to Canada when Trump won?
Just exercising my memory here, but  didn’t the “I’m moving to Canada if ____ is elected” thing start when Obama was running?
    Love you bro!

John Quincy Adams threatened to move if Andrew Jackson won reelection.

Agree with @bgebrent..just because we carry doesn't mean we're looking for a fight, it means we're looking to not become a victim. There is a big difference in the 2. Not everyone gets to live, work or travel in a fairy padded palace as @Phaqallyall wants to believe.

Speaking from experience, mine has saved me from at best a mugging...maybe more..and despite the belief that we're all walking around half cocked..all it took to diffuse the situation was letting the individuals visualize the arse end of the pistol in my hand with a very deliberate slow draw from the holster where only about 50% of it was seen. Subsequently the 2 individuals decided I wasn't worth the effort......it wasn't pointed at them, 500 rounds weren't discharged wildly, etc

Driving through Durham one afternoon, stopped at a light. Individual runs out and yanks the left rear door of my car open, the one with my daughter in the car seat. He got a face full of my 1911 and retreated very quickly. Nano seconds from going really bad. Practice does matter

Mood sounds like a good thing to base gun decisions on.

No one asked for your opinion on what I do with my firearms slick. You don't like guns fine, don't carry one. Why do you care so much how I carry mine?
