The local TV station did a report on this a few months ago.  They went to a few shops and took the "expert" cashier's recommendation buying about six different varieties.

    - Five of the six had had less than 1/10 of the started amount of whatever was supposed to be in there.

    - One had about 60% of the stated amount

    - One had THC in it

Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't........but there are apparently a bunch of crooks out there trying to get rich off of it (and giving the real stuff a bad name in the process.)  Like any non-regulated item, know your source I suppose.

Can I interest anyone in some exogenous ketones?

I’ll buy some. Just to get those eyebrows.

If you really want those eyebrows, I think you just need to borrow one of Caliprince’s markers.

That would be cheating. And my brain fog wouldn’t lift.

There’s a show on TV now called Bong Appetite. Nationally renowned chefs cooking with various types of flower and oils. This is high end cooking; not grinding up some weed on a Bagel Bite.

This must be okay because it was “peer reviewed”

Former Congress critter and Speaker of the House John Boehner was always dead set against legalizing marijuana...until he found that he could make a lot of money from legal weed.

Never said no one gets any benefit.  Ron is proof.  Sugar pills also alleviate pain.  Peer reviewed scientific studies answer the questions.  Lemmings, ready, set, go.

The problem with “peer reviewed” is that the reviews are on the back of the Merck yacht in Hawaii.

A lot of these people aren't getting "duped" they're just sick and tired of living with chronic pain and seeking a viable option aside from their doctors opioid recommendation.

Virginia recently legalized the growing and processing of industrial hemp.  I just became a licensed grower (seriously).  Missed this growing season, but getting ready to experiment with indoor germination.    Met the local sheriff at a festival and he shared story of a guy in the county who planted a lot of acres (= a lot of money on seeds, etc).  Mandatory testing said it was above the threshold of THC which is 0.3% - had to burn his whole crop.

Back in the day, yes, but not as much now.

That sort of thing was usually on the marketing side, to get docs to write more prescriptions e.g taking cardiologists on a cruise so they would write more Lipitor prescriptions. Those tend to be docs in private practice who aren’t typically involved with research/publishing, so they don’t have much influence on safety/efficacy studies.

I’m sure Big Pharma said no to influencing research...

Andrew Wakefield published study in The Lancet that showed the MMR vaccine caused autism.  I believe there were only 12 cases referenced in his paper and it took over 12 years to get it retracted by the journal.  The damage is still growing and being assessed from that one.  Blindly shouting "peer review is the gold standard" doesn't really help anyone.

Basic research, pre-clinical research and controlled clinical trials are what is needed to sort out what something like CBD does or doesn't do and by what mechanism(s).  This takes money and the ability to conduct the research which for quite a while was unsupported and not allowed by the gov.

I think CBD has a much better chance of being funded and researched than many botanicals because it's a single compound, not a big mixture of stuff like a whole plant extract.  Also because there is a lot of interest in it.  This hasn't blown up in the essential oils or vertical marketing lane and hopefully it stays out of there, but I fear that won't be the case.  I'm afraid getting the vertical marketing stink on a potential therapeutic would kill interest in it's real potential.

It's encouraging that one drug company has already pursued and received approval for a cbd medicine, hopefully more jump in as well, but my personal feeling is that may not happen because it will be hard to get patent protection, essentially making it like a generic right out of the gate for any manufacturer to rapidly follow the first company to spend the big money to get it approved for something broad, like pain relief.

My guess is regulatory agencies may draw a line between consumer products and therapeutics based on dose or potency.  Any regulatory involvement will be good in order to standardize the potency, purity, dose, etc.  Right now, it's unregulated and un-standardized, so you get what was mentioned above - one product to the next will have wildly varying amounts and claims are all over the place.

FWIW, I have no idea if what my Dad takes helps or not.  It gives my Mom some hope and for me that's great.  I've never used it and I'm not an advocate for it being a cure all or people running out and buying.  Be smart, read, don't get over the moon with unreasonable hope.  I'm hopeful and confident the research will continue and expand.  I have friends that are trying it in a conservative way to see if it helps their situations.  I am interested in the anecdotal as well as the controlled research because that's how folk medicines developed, anecdotal observation.  Yes, that road is also lined with snake oil salesmen.  It's the source of that info you need to consider, if they're selling it to you, then they're not going to be a good witness for you.
    Love you bro!
