That sort of thing was usually on the marketing side, to get docs to write more prescriptions e.g taking cardiologists on a cruise so they would write more Lipitor prescriptions. Those tend to be docs in private practice who aren’t typically involved with research/publishing, so they don’t have much influence on safety/efficacy studies."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike -
Docs that participate in clinical trials often get to be authors on papers written on those studies, but the real publication is the submission write up for the regulatory agencies which don't get published. And yes, pharma pays for clinical trials, that's how they test new medicines and get them approved.

And with reference to Wakefield's "study", it's also the only publication in The Lancet's history to be retracted.Legume said:Andrew Wakefield published study in The Lancet that showed the MMR vaccine caused autism. I believe there were only 12 cases referenced in his paper and it took over 12 years to get it retracted by the journal. The damage is still growing and being assessed from that one. Blindly shouting "peer review is the gold standard" doesn't really help anyone.Basic research, pre-clinical research and controlled clinical trials are what is needed to sort out what something like CBD does or doesn't do and by what mechanism(s).
I think this is exactly the point trying to be made here.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX. -
I can’t say if CBD is all hype or not. The problem with the supplement industry as a whole is everything is hidden under the term proprietary blend. Could CBD help at the right dosages maybe, but someone needs to manufacture it to specifications and run clinical trials.
As someone who who lives every single day in pain I know how much it sucks, but I also know the vitamin shops and gas stations aren’t selling a quality product that I could rely on to even try.
My friend has offered to send me some of his product to try; but I’m hesitant.
This is his company. https://www.mountainmade.life/shopXL BGE, KJ classic, Joe Jr, UDS x2 -
Cannabis cures! I'm a believer. CBD + THC (or w/out THC) tinctures. FECO or RSO. They all have purpose and work when utilizing specific strains. Your source is key.LBGE 2013 & MM 2014Die Hard HUSKER & BRONCO FANFlying Low & Slow in "Da Burg" FL

I seem to recall hearing something a few years back that one of the biggest reasons marijuana or hemp were/are illegal was because back at the turn of the 19th-20th century southern farmers were growing hemp in place of the cotton they previously had grown. They came to the conclusion that hemp specifically could become a cheaper/faster growing replacement for timber in the production of many products.
As a result the northern timber farmers lobbied their politicians to outlaw it. I am pretty sure I also read where for centuries hemp oil was used by Native American tribes as a pain reliever. I'm not a doctor but it seems to me if for centuries people were using it to relieve pain prior to the existence of modern medicine there has to be some small amount of truth in its use as a pain reliever doesn't it? I've personally witnessed someone use it that had around 30 seizures a day on average. Now they have around 3. So maybe instead of calling it "snake oil" we should research it as some here have suggested.

@caliking
agree re Lancet, but I don’t consider peer reviewed journal articles to be super accessible to the public - not terribly digestible for lay reading. There can be fraud in clinical trials too, especially pain trials, but that can be more participant perpetrated and ideally washed out by honest participation.
My points - there is anecdotal evidence, may be worth a go for some people, but go in eyes wide open while waiting for the science to catch up. The beneficial indications for it will settle out through experience and science. It’s good that science is engaged so that snake oil vs cure can be sorted out, but until then, there is a lot of observational information out there. Merely yelling “peer reviewed science” at people strikes me as a bit ivory tower and that is what I am reacting to.Love you bro! -

All I know is my own evidence and that is that it has dramatically decreased my knee/hip pain. On the days that I skipped it in the past, I remembered I had missed some days and that's when the pain came back. It just makes me feel better and my wife too. I'm usually one of the most skeptical people I know, but I swear by this now. Don't care if it's a placebo or what it is. Works for me.
