Everyday Olive Oil
What are you folks using for “everyday” olive oil? I’m talking about the grocery store stuff. Do you find any real difference across brands? I tend to buy whatever is on sale but have had good luck with this brand.

I usually get the organic EVOO (surprisingly cheaper than normal) from Costco. But we use a ton of it.

I go cheap for frying....purchase good for dipping, dressings and such. Not tied to a brand.....

I use the same brand. Their light olive oil is also really good.

365 Spanish virgin from Whole Paycheck. Great grass with a little pepper. The Lucini is good if you want a black pepper forward oil. California extra virgin is good too. We also get oil from an adopted tree in Italy that is boutique oil I only use for finishing. My other finishing oil is from Jordan vineyards, grassy with a little fruit. I like olive oil. Honestly not a Filippo berrio fan as I find its flavor muted. But if it’s for cooking and not finishing, it’s functional.

Adopted tree in Italy? That sounds like something for the special edition Range Rover folk.

I adopted a tree once...it died...

It was a gift from our 5 children actually. We were given the adoption. Way better than a pos Range Rover. It’s an outstanding oil.

Felippo Berrio? Doesn’t measure up with a vintage Camaro...

@DoubleEgger there is a pretty cool store right off exit 13 called Gabbys Olive Branch. It’s like a growler store for olive oil but nicer. They also have some really good vinegars. https://gabbysolivebranch.com/

Vinegars are just as special and important as good olive oils. Thanks Lit.

But not endorsing Felippo berrio vinegar. Mass prod like the oil. The best way to know your getting fresh and high quality oil is when it’s extra virgin and the harvest date is stamped. Buy by date is a looser because it’s ordinary mass production probably 2 years old. Good olive oil is fresh, bottled within a year.

Not sure where you’re disagreeing with the facts presented Robin. But you certainly have more time to consider.

I find that the quality of Tuscan olive oils is hard to beat. Well, um, okay, maybe I stole that line from the following article:

I like how OP asks about everyday olive oil, store bought at just any ‘ole grocery store, and everybody else posts about high end single tree boutique olive oil.

I don’t think they ship any longer, but if you’re in the Santa Barbara area, this stuff is great, supports a great cause and every year is a little different from the last.
Love you bro! -
i use the filippo berio brand, that bottle size lasts two weekends. been using the aldis brand avacado oil in the fry pan though, the sauteing olive oils taste heavey overpowering to me

I buy this one at Costco. Not because I’m a connoisseur, but because it looks fancy 😁. It even has dates and stuff.
Years ago, Filippo Berio was trying to enter the Indian market, since cooking with olive oil is not really a thing there. But virtually every grandmother diligently massages their grandbabies with some kind of oil after baths. It used to crack me up to see the Filippo Berio ads with smiling babies in them. It didn’t really catch on.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX. -
