Great man that served his country well. I didn't agree with his politics in the last few years but I respect him and his service. Rest in peace John.

He has always reminded me of the old joke about the chicken and pig at breakfast. Like, agree with him,or not, he gave more than most. Men and women like him made this country special-  remember him fondly. He fought the good fight and he left the world a better place. May we all do the same.

I am not from a different generation of Senator John McCain. I am a proud American, who had served, perhaps not by the side of this great man, but totally dedicated, as he was, in our countries core values.

I, having a more liberal foundation, had frequently questioned his political direction.

John McCain, although listed as Republican, was an American, first, sacrificed mightily to assure each, and everyone of us, this night, as every night before, and every night in our future, we will be free, without fear someone within our ranks will marginalize our future.

America will rest easy on these nights, because he was there, for us all.

Thank you, John McCain. We are a greater country, because of you.

Our hearts go out to his loved ones this day.

Rest in peace, McCain.  You deserve some rest.

John McCain in modern American politics was a unicorn.  Always had service to country foremost in his actions and intent.  Selfless to a fault.

As he admitted about himself that he is a flawed human being, and made many mistakes that he regretted, I would like to commend him for his humanity as it takes a genuine person to admit that, and I appreciated that humility above all else.

One lesson we can all learn here, and I mean ALL of us:  John separated politics from relationships.  We could all do better in this regard. He was one of those old school politicians that believed people can disagree and compromise, yet still be friends and have a beer at the end of the day.   Neo-politicians have become harbingers of hate, and I think this movement towards visceral and personal divisiveness will end badly for everyone.

John reached across the isle and had friends without bounds.  He once sat down with Hillary and had a vodka shot drinking contest, he was friends with Obama. 

He lost his way a few times but recognized it and, in his usual self-deprecating way, admitted he is an imperfect human, but he wants to be better.

In a segue to forum members here, I would like to say all of you should be more like John and try to separate disparity of opinions and friendship in a manageable way.  I have friends that are all over the spectrum politically.  I think the best ambassador to your views are to do what John does, be civil, and drink vodka (maybe it was tequila) shots with those across the isle.

But I can do better too, and I will try, as hard as it is to be more tolerant.

I want to think he would be smiling if this were his legacy.

Kinda strange that he died nine years to the day after Kennedy died.   From the SAME disease.

That is what the usual suspects do. After they trolled a thread saluting those killed on December 7, 1941, this is just sadly something to be expected.

Maybe I missed it, but as far as I can see there’s only one post here that takes barely a glancing shot at Trump.  I think maybe you guys are taking issue with not much of anything.   Maybe say something nice about the Senator yourself first.   TIA.

Apparently both past Presidents Bush and Obama will give eulogies at his funeral.  Those promise to be two fairly different speeches, both worth watching.
