What is it with wives and leaving fridges open??

Mine did this some months ago. No major damage. Just warm beer to deal with and the sourdough starter overflowed out of it's deli tub.

The culprit is the light inside (if your fridge has an incandescent bulb). Door left ajar, light pops on, and warms everything up. Unscrewing that bulb may prevent a future tragedy.

@DMW - you gotta recognize when you are dealing with a fella that knows everything.

Because I made a comment you disagree with? I guess I'm dealing with one of those "it's true because that's the way I always done it" types...

Thermoworks makes a good fridge/freezer alarm that monitors temps and then wakes up the neighbors when the wife leaves the freezer door open. Had to get one after a GFI outlet ruined a freezer full of venison.

I dont think food poisoning is worth saving a few bucks. As someone said earlier, it is more about the family time then the food.

I once left an upright freezer door open in the summer. I came home from work and there was massive puddle of blood in front of and around the freezer, luckily it was in a porch. Lost around half a hog, quarter of beef, and venison. A family friend had a wild game farm with tigers other animals and he gladly accepted everything that was in the freezer.
  • It's been decided .......she'll be cooked this weekend.

If we die, we die -

On a serious note, not sure why I didn't think of this, but when tragedy strikes its hard to think level headed-

After it being in the garbage for about an hour, I probed it and it was reading 49 degrees. I think we'll be fine, plus they cook to 200 ish so that should take care of anything that started to grow, right?

It'll always be less awesome than unfrozen beef. Once frozen you might as well just head to Costco or Whole Foods and get something off the shelf.
Hang on. You are saying Wagyu grade beef that has been frozen will be worse than Select grade fresh beef?
No I said I wouldn't spend the premium on it unless it was fresh. Freeze/thaw cycles degrade the quality, especially long term freezer storage.
The SRF briskets are frankly in another class.  Try one sometime.

Reminds me of an old joke.

Guys goes to the doctor because he's been coughing. Doctor loads him up with laxatives and tells him to come back in 2 days.

    2 days later:
"Doc! I'm miserable! I've got the runs real bad. I haven't been able to sleep.  I'm too afraid to cough, sneeze, or make any sudden moves because I might shît myself!"

" Well, if you're not coughing anymore..."

Bacteria growth zone is between 40-140 degrees, since you’re on the lower end I’m sure it’ll be fine if you’ve stuck it back in the fridge. If not at least you’ll be in the water this weekend!

Oh, it doesn't bother me.  They're not saying anything about me that my wife hasn't said a 1000 times. I'm just vocal about certain topics and don't toe the line well, and I'm sure that comes across as a know-it-all in print. I like to call it passionate but my wife calls it disagreeable.

You don't ever really bother me.  The stuff with bge STEALING Tom's product designs is a touchy subject, though.  That crap was just wrong and unless you have been around a while its probably hard to understand just how bad it is.

Yeah, I can see that. I was just kicking up dust. I'm sure that is a touchy subject, had no idea the owner was a member here. Just thought it was another big accessory company. Now I know and will probably being buying a few things from them soon.

Also, keep in mind the 40F threshold is erring on the side of safety.  It's not like bacteria all have marching orders to start reproducing at 41F.  There are some bacteria that love temps under 40F.  The general growth rate increases with temp so that "4-hour" rule is a worst case, designed for the "sweet" temp zone around 90-110 F.
