So sad. I really liked watching his shows. Even when you think someone is “living the life”, you never know what struggles they are battling.

I didn’t catch his show all that often, but when I did, I really appreciated it.  Obviously the guy loved food and drink, but also the opportunity to sit down with people around a table and get to know their cultures and traditions around the meal.  He’ll be missed.

SO sorry to hear this, don't want to believe it.  Loved that guy.  Read Kitchen Confidential when it came out all those years ago, loved it (though it doesn't play well in our changed world today), been a fan ever since.  Very sorry to lose him.

The suicide rate in the United States has seen sharp increases in recent years. It's now the 10th leading cause of death in the country, according to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Studies have shown that the risk of suicide declines sharply when people call the national suicide hotline: 1-800-273-TALK

There is also a crisis text line. 

The lines are staffed by a mix of paid professionals and unpaid volunteers trained in crisis and suicide intervention. The confidential environment, the 24-hour accessibility, a caller's ability to hang up at any time and the person-centered care have helped its success, advocates say.

What the everloving ****. As much as anything else, his book, Kitchen Confidential, started me on my love affair with food, and opened my eyes to a world I’d never known. So unspeakably sad. 

Another reminder that we don’t know what others are carrying around with them as we stumble through life. Be kind. Be patient. Try to empathize. 

Oh so sad.
