There is so much formaldehyde in wood smoke I wouldn't think it matters.

VOCs are volatile organic compounds. Aldehydes found in wood smoke include formaldehyde, acrolein, propionaldehyde, butyraldehyde, acetaldehyde, and furfural. Alkyl benzenes found in wood smoke include toluene.

Glad was home----Windy day, the pellets must have Lit Up and caust a wood shelf, lit up like a christmas tree when I opened the door--MOST of it is OK, the door took the brunt as I opened it up, will be repairing WITH some modifications

NOOOOooooo.......   the good side is that no one was hurt and you caught it before it became known as the “California Cold Smoker” fire. 
I would think a rebuild is called for. Are you going to make it bigger?

Well, that probably solved any VOC issues.  I think it adds character.  

I’m certainly glad you were able to get it out.
