Only "country" music I can listen to currently.  Almost has a rockabilly feel to it as well.

@DoubleEgger I will agree with that.

My wife turned on the "pop" country station in town while I was driving yesterday. Carrie Underwood was singing another song about murdering yet another cheating man.

I glared at her and said, "she isn't killing them. They are committing suicide"
However, should a man sing the same song only about killing his cheating wife......he would be jailed. Crazy.

  • @YukonRon this just came on my iPod player as I was sitting in the backyard forcing a bourbon slushie to "slushify" and finishing up a pork butt.

That's as close as you're gonna get to not jail time. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=AqK4Q67rdM4

It's out there... Just gotta find it. I like Blake Shelton. Saw Marin Morris and was excellent. I grew up on Cash, Willie, Waylon, Millsap, Cline, Alabama, Connelly,... It's definitely pop music now for the most part.

  • Funny thing is it's always been this way. Willie and Waylon had to leave Nashville because they wanted them to wear suits, be clean shaven, and play over-produced pop music. Country radio in the 70's was terrible. Strings, saxophones, doo-wop backup singers. All standard for pop songs in the day. It's called Outlaw Country because wille, Waylon and the boys bucked the system and did it on their own. There was no Willie, Waylon, or Merle on country radio back then and there still isn't for the most part. That's why they are so badass. They did it their way.

Blakes a good guy. I ended up running into him 10-12 years ago at a bar I was at after he got done singing at the MN State Fair. I was fortunate to sing a couple karaoke songs with him. Very down to earth. He sat and drank with a group of army guys at the bar. Just a regular Joe Schmo. Pretty cool to see fame hasn't changed him any

Thats a great one. We get to see Hayes a lot. He's been local here for the past 15 years but he just bought a place in...gasp...Nashville :). He puts on a great show and you will
laugh out loud a lot if you go see him. He just stole Steve Earle's wife/GF and they were feuding like Biggie and Tupac at Willies picnic last week. Funny stuff.

    Blake is good peeps.
Another one I dig is Eric Church.

I'll go out on a limb here and add Paisley and Urban.  They get a pass for their ridiculous guitar skills, and the fact they are involved with writing their own stuff.

If you ever watch college game day during football season, Eric Church is amazing with his picks and analyst

Today's country is complete horse ****. There's a couple guys carrying the torch, which most have already been mentioned like Isbell, Sturgill Simpson, Hank III, Stapleton, Robert Earl Keen, Shooter Jennings. Theirs is the stuff I can tolerate.
