Thanks for clearing that up.  Remember I am the guy who thought Soundgarden was Alice In Chains, so my  pop culture knowledge is not the greatest.

Love Ken Kesey's books, but they should've used Tom Cruise in the movie.

  • It's obvious there's two schools of thought here.  Those that want public $ to subsidize green energy and those that don't.  IMO, it must be feasible to stand on its own without a pipeline of federal $ propping it up.  Emotional appeals to save the planet through green energy means the proponents of green energy can't make it work economically.  Done tussling with you fellas.

It's a Hunter S Thompson piece. Fear and Loathing at the Kentucky Derby is another one of my favorites.

Agree Fred, we should stop giving federal $ to energy companies in general, especially established ones that have a decent profit stream already.

Thankfully, we did invest public $ in the technology, and it is working out economically.  That's why the renewable energy sector and jobs are taking off.

Thanks for your incredibly informed contributions to the discussion, as always, Fred.

My favorite libtard clean energy initiative was the wind farm planned off Cape Cod that the Senate Groper in Chief and Mary Kay Latourneau's (sp) taxi driver  Ted Kennedy shut down, because he didn't want to have to look at him while sipping Chardonnay at his Harwich estate.

Is lump considered "clean coal"?  Anyone ever try using anthracite in their egg?

I'm a little confused. Are you thinking of Ken Kesey "One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest"? Tom Cruise would have been 13 when that movie was made. The earlier quote was from "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" by Hunter S Thompson. Johnny Depp played the title role in that movie.

The road trip movie, right?  LSD?  I had it wrong, I think they were going to give the part to Woody Harrelson, not Jack Nicholson (too old).  Tom Cruise would be better.

So hitching our economy to a promise to spend $TRILLIONS with the vague hope to cool the planet a fraction of 1 degree over 100 years is rational?
Your view is that addressing climate change is all cost, no benefit.  The reality is that the growth area in the energy sector right now is all in renewables.  The world is moving to renewable forms of energy for a whole host of reasons.  We can either be leaders in that space or be left behind.
Come on John - you know you'd hate to invest lots of money and ONLY end up with cleaner air and water.

Yeah, you're right John-Boy.  Government rebates, tax credits and other incentives don't mean jack squat!  Of course the economics work when the government subsidizes it.   Your grasp of economics is stellar.

Jack Nicholson would have sucked as Austin Powers - Tom Cruise was fantastic.

You said you were "done tussling" Fred.  You do this all the time, by the way.  You declare that you're done and then drop back in.  So, which is it this time?  Are you still discussing or are you done tussling?
