My samsung had issues with the ice maker from about 6 months out.  I bought the extended warranty and everything, glad I did.

After having them try to fix it 12 times, it was deemed a lemon and cut us a check for the whole price we paid ( minus warranty).

About 6 months later, our freezer died that was only one year old.  They tried to fix it but parts were not available so we got cut a check for the price we paid plus like $250 for food spoilage.  We easily hade over $1000 in food go bad though.  So we lost our shirt on this one.

i now view the warranty fees to be my rental agreement, because it all broke after a certain duration of use.  Only bad luck with appliances for us.

If I posted what I honestly thought of a bottom freezer French door fridge I would be banned from this forum immediately
I like mine, but it came with the house. I use the fridge 80/20 over the freezer so not having to bend over all the time is nice too. Only thing it's needed in 7 years is a new water line filter adapter, because the pressure valve wore out.

Bought a house in 2001 that had sub zero side by side.   Spent 800 on each for new compressors, have to get the door cams rebuilt every couple of years but service tech says that as long as we keep coils clean and inner linings dont rust our or break, these are pretty much bulletproof.

They have served us well and hopefully keep on keepin' on!
$1600 in compressors and door rebuilds every few years isn't my idea of bulletproof.

Loved my sub zero but only had it five years. No issues, ice maker too. Doesn't sound like Jason wants that kind of beast which I totally get.

Funny you mention that.  House we bought has a bottom freezer sub zero.  door FELL OFF one day.  If it had fallen on one of my kids it very well may have killed them.  the only good thing is that even though it's 10 years old, and we didn't purchase it, they've sent out repair people multiple times to work on it at no cost to us.  I think maybe it has a 10 year warranty?

We bought a Whirlpool Gold franchisor with app. 27 ft. Of space, first model year and had icemaker issue within 4 months, repair tech advised us to buy extended warrantee, which we did, 4 service calls later and parts being shipped to my home, we were done. I sent  registered letter to the CEO of Whirlpool and got a new French door refrigerator 4 years no problems. I spent 20+ yeArs in the commercial dishwashing industry.
One word of advice DO NOT BUY AN ELECTROLUX, NOR A FRIDGE WITH A CAMERA IN IT, use the KISS method, keep it simple stupid, water, and electricity don't need fancy electronics to ad to the recipe.

@DoubleEgger -  for me a $2K beater is upscale and as long as it takes care of the SRF, then I am good with that.  Also have an 18+ year old barebones fridge (the overload spare) in the basement (no ice cube duty) still going strong (now jinxed)  and paid just under $600 for it.  Currently standing guard over a just delivered SRF brisket planned for consumption on 4/16.

That was my attempt at using air quotes. I've never had any problems with any fridge I've owned. (I'm screwed now). I just can't see why a sub zero is worth that kind of coin. You can buy a half dozen nice fridges for $12k. A sub zero isn't going to last 6x longer.

I bought a Speed Queen NON H-E dependable OLD School wash machine......2 dials and a temp setting.  No LED readout.  Could not be happier keeping technology OUT of my appliance world.

Kind of like my Grilling, BGE is simple.
I just bought a Speed Queen washer and dryer. I bought the electronic controls because of the longer warranty those machines carried. Speed Queen apparently believes in the electronic controls. I'm guessing the commercial laundry machines they produce has given them time to get the electronic controls worked out.
I bought them to replace a 30 yr old Maytag pair. I really wanted something that I thought was comparable to the old Maytags.
I really think the Speed Queens are built really well and have a good chance to make it to at least the 20 yr mark.

I also bought a Bosch diswasher a few months prior. It has the time display on the floor and a built in water softener. I bought it to replace a Miele dishwasher. I wouldn't wish a Miele on anybody. Noting but trouble. And very poor support from the dealer. They have no idea how to work on the Miele.

The Bosch is a fine machine. Quiet and cleans fantastic. The water softener salt really helps the dishes clean well.

so far, just door cams every 4 years like clockwork, thats 250 for both sides.  Both compressors replaced 5 yrs ago and thats after theyd been in this place for 25 yrs...no other issues since....

Sub zero is a racket as they have a limited number of certified service technicians who really charge what they think theyre worth.  But, if you have an appliance repair guy in your area who knows what hes doing and who can access the parts, ill ride these suckers out for another 20 yrs....

Appliances are a damn racket though IMO....

If you need it Jason, it's all yours.

I get one of these almost every day.  In three years, I should have enough for a sub zero, provided I can figure out how to cheat the expiration, sears is still in business, and that they even carry sub zero.

on second thought, maybe I'll just get some toughskins.
    Love you bro!

The wife is on me to change out our appliances and I keep telling her that we will change them out once something dies.   My Kenmore refrigerator is 27 years old and the rest of the kitchen appliances are nearly 22 years old.  Haven't had nearly as much luck out of washers and dryers as we are on our third set.

This thread is convincing me not to change anything out prior to something dying.  Not sounding promising for any brands except for maybe Bosch.

Just to add in- ours died ~6 months ago and we got this one.

So far its been a pretty good unit- one beef is lack of ice production, seems to always be half empty.

We have a counter depth Kitchen Aid Superba SxS that's been solid for 15 years except for needing to jam a hair dryer in the icemaker maybe twice a year to unfreeze it.

I bought an LG dishwasher about three years ago.  After 18 months it was as noisy as a truck.  I danced around with the store for a while and ended up paying a repairman out of pocket just to be told they all fail like that and need a new motor...which will fail too.  So I went to another store and bought a Bosch and got rid of the LG.  I know it's a diffferent animal than their refrigerators, but I had a bad experience and the repairman said it was a commmon experience.
I have a Bosch dishwasher and induction stovetop. Both easily the best appliances we have ever owned. I'm sold on Bosch.
Bosch is awesome- can't tell it's running except for the red dot it shines on the floor. Won't own anything else.
mine shines a timer on the floor with how long it has to go until finished. The only way you know it's running. The induction stove...game changer.
We upgraded our appliances this summer and went with a Bosch dishwasher. I love how quite it is and the fact you can remove the top rack to fit big pans and buckets in the bottom.
    Apparently I can't spell quiet...
