Well, the flipside of that is fixed pricing where dealers can't offer discounts.  I paid less for my XL than the standard price.  But I agree, ripping off customers sucks.  if there are multiple dealers in an area, this shouldn't be a problem with a little comparison shopping.

I get that, but I was thinking more of like a max MSRP I guess.  I would be fine with dealers giving longtime regulars better deals, but I think there should be a ceiling on what dealers can charge for a new egg.  You are right about comparison shopping, but unfortunately not everyone does that.  I just think it is wrong that certain dealers rip people off, and because of that sometimes it leaves a bad taste in my mouth regarding BGE in general.

When I talk to people about kamodos i tend to hear "i have a kamodo style"or
"I have a BGE".  You can buy a hyundai with more standard features than a BMW for cheaper but in the end which will you like more?    I like some of the features on the new KJ but I wonder how the airlift will hold up.  I'm buying  a BGE for life... and maybe some of my kids life, if I spend an extra couple hundred bucks setting my egg up just right I'm not going to be sad in 20 years because another cooker had it from factory....

My biggest issue with BGE is the lack of standard pricing.  I know for a fact that one of my local dealers rips unknowledgeable customers off.  Just list the damn MSRPs on the website, BGE gives the dealers too much room to take advantage of customers, imo.
In the UK he BGE operation lists the prices and has an online configurator. You can buy from them at list price, or from a dealer, so they don't undercut the dealers. It makes sense to do this so everyone knows where the starting point for negotiation is.

The shipping is different for various areas. Not apples to apples. I would assume the lowest prices are @ Atlanta and the adjacent southern states. There isn't very much markup in the product, even at MSRP. The key to great customer service is the dealer network and the dedication BGE has towards it's dealers.

Exactly - if the brand name is important to you, then you will be happier with the brand name.  Which you will like more is very subjective, the color, name and how the nest looks are all valued differently by each of us.

Shipping/Freight.  BGE's are HEAVY and bulky.  Not only are distributor's costs higher to bring them in from ATL, but then it depends on how far the distributor is from the dealer.  Then some dealers have a forklift, dock, and warehousing, whereas other can only afford/store what they have on the showroom floor (which came in on a liftgate truck.)  My prices could/would be lower since our BGE's were picked up in a BIG order at the distributor, in OUR truck, then are stored in OUR warehouse......but then we're in an industrial area out in the 'burbs (not in a busy retail area.)  Standardized/Fixed pricing??  Screw that.  Just like buying a car or ANYTHING else, gotta shop around.

It doesn't have anything to do with the heat. There have been multiple attempts to get people to stop using Hotlanta in recent years including the Bert show.

KJ offers a standard price, and they ship less units (per this thread), so why cant BGE which has higher volume negotiate a better shipping rate and come up with a standard price?  The fact that multiple dealers in the same area have different prices on the same exact product is not OK, and it is taking advantage of uninformed customers.

The way we buy cars here is ass backwards though too, tesla actually has figured out the correct way to do it, imo.

Almost all grill manufacturers let you do whatever you want inside the store, go up or down on price.  Case in point, Kamado joe selling an $1899 MAP Price Big Joe in Costco for $1499.    Just an FYI, I am selling similar package XL egg for less than my cost (Kjoe's Premium price) for a big joe.

Did we get an answer to this yet?  Arrive at some kind of consensus?

I need to know if I should toss my BGEs into the garbage or if it's OK to keep on rolling the smoke.

Had I not worked for a BGE dealer and got my egg a cost, I would likely have opted for a primo based on the oval design and more efficient use of cooking surface.

Didn't we just go through this last week when someone started a thread about the 2017 Big Joe?  To paraphrase/shorten my comments on that thread, and reinforce what @YukonRon said earlier this morning:

Like that thread its intriguing how many (not all, but many) of the posts in this thread favoring other kamados are from newer forum members...  just sayin'

If you like BGE, great - enjoy your cooks. If you like KJ or KK or Primo, great - enjoy your cooks as well, but don't be surprised if you get challenged on the BGE forum, just as I would expect to if I went to a KJ forum and posted glowingly about my BGE.   In fact I don't know why I'd bother going over there as I'm happy with my Egg and get more help and support from this forum than I ever imagined.

Regardless, I continue to be impressed that BGE allows such an open discussion of their competition on this forum.  It doesn't appear to me that any of these threads have been buffaloed.

Looks like the kamado debates are joining the lump debates - I vote these threads only appear on Friday afternoon and only alcohol fueled posts be allowed!  =)

Maybe it's a Commie plot, or am I confusing selling grills with the presidential campaign?

I made no conclusion; just think it is interesting that there's a sudden rush of this type of post with many of the posts in those threads, or the founder of the thread, by new forum members.   I simply pointed out a data trend - draw your own conclusions as to its meaning or lack there of.

I actually noticed many of the comments that people say they love the egg are brand new posters. The people I have seen that like the KJ design are people I have seen posting here for years.

For myself, I will only buy BGE for L and XL sizes (currently have an XL).  But I will be buying a Joe Jr for my daily driver here soon (Costco), and in my opinion it is the only KJ that has an advantage over the BGE.

In regards to newer posters not favoring BGE as much as more established posters, I think it has to do with brand loyalty.  Newer users aren't going to have the same loyalty that a decade+ long user would have.  Newer users are questioning BGE more, which isn't a bad thing for the market.
