Beautiful cut's. Sadly my Costco does not have a meat case like that.
  • Mine too! Love it. Big fat prime steaks.

My Costco doesn't have a meat counter like that either. Tomahawks are fun!

Those look great.  Add me to the list of Costco's that don't have those.

    Are these blade tenderized?

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

i saw that counter at my local costco, but just in passing. Couldn't tell if it was a special roadshow type of thing, just for that weekend, or a long-term feature.

I'm hoping that the latter is true! :)

  • The Costco I stopped at in Omaha last week had the same thing. It was located with all of the seafood they sell out in the middle in front of the other meat cases. I picked up 10 pounds of prime beef plate ribs for 3.99 a pound. Can't wait to fire those babies up this weekend.

My COSTCO doesn't carry much in the line of prime nor tomahawks, but I have a general question. Other than being cool looking what is the advantage of tomahawks?

As peepaw used to say - the nearer the bone, the sweeter the meat.  That big ole' handle off the back is just a bit of  superfluous decoration at $9.99/lb...

  • Ron I think it is just the cool factor Hyvee has Tomahawk for 9.99 and a Cowboy for 12.99. correct me if wrong but both are just very large Rib eyes.

Agree. All that delicious fat they trim off when they french the bone. That's one of the best parts of the ribeye.

presentation is biggest reason for bone in and i read somwhere that the bone actually helps enhance flavor of the meat?  I dont kmow for sure as ive had many tasty boneless ribeyes but the bone in ones for presentation's sake were off the charts incredible, amd they were tasty

Id have to do a side by side comparison to see how the flavor differs, if it does at all....

  • Wow.  I'm going to drive to all my Costco's to see if we're up to speed.
  • Are these blade tenderized?
They are not blade tenderized thankfully. Really good cut of meat.

And while the giant bones aren't necessary, they sure look neat and are fun to gnaw on like a caveman.

I'm not much on plate presentation but the inside of the steak is too good not to share.

I go to the Costco at Square Lake and Telegraph. They fancied up their seafood case area and added the meat case.
