I assume they'll be changing the warranty to "as is - no returns"

From the Houston Chronicle web page:

RTIC has agreed to redesign its drinkware and other items in a settlement of lawsuits by Yeti alleging various forms of infringement and unfair competition.

Texas cooler rivals Yeti and RTIC announced Thursday evening that they've reached a settlement on their litigation, and RTIC will have to redesign its hard-side coolers, soft-side coolers and drinkware.

Cypress-based RTIC burst onto the cooler scene in 2015 with slogans like "half the price of a Yeti cooler and holds more ice." Yeti's response was to file several lawsuits.

The allegations included patent infringement, trade dress infringement, trademark infringement and unfair competition.

RTIC co-founder John Jacobsen said his company entered the settlement to avoid the additional cost and uncertainty of litigation. Separate from the agreement, he said, RTIC had previously announced changes to its product lines and expects to roll out new products and update existing products in the spring.

"This dispute has been amicably resolved," Jacobsen said in a text message. "And as part of the agreement, RTIC has agreed to redesign its products."

In a news release, Yeti said that RTIC and its co-founders will have to make a financial payment and cease sales of the products subject to its lawsuits.

"We are extremely pleased with the results we have achieved," Yeti CEO Matt Reintjes said in a news release. "We will continue to defend our innovation and intellectual property. This is a true win."

RTIC, however, said in a Facebook post that it will continue to operate as normal "selling all the RTIC brand of products as provided on the www.RTICcoolers.com website."

I've been on the fence on a soft side cooler. Wonder how long it will be before they have to stop selling them? Also wonder if Yeti will go after Ozark Trail?

"Those that worry about the warranty is kind of a moot point because a warranty is only good as long as the company stays in business."

Didn't Tommy Boy say something like that once???

I believe it was Tommy: Let's think about this for a sec, Ted. Why would somebody put a guarantee on a box? Hmmm, very interesting.

Ted Nelson, Customer: Go on, I'm listening.

Tommy: Here's the way I see it, Ted. Guy puts a fancy guarantee on a box 'cause he wants you to feel all warm and toasty inside.

Ted Nelson, Customer: Yeah, makes a man feel good.

Tommy: 'Course it does. Why shouldn't it? Ya figure you put that little box under your pillow at night, the Guarantee Fairy might come by and leave a quarter, am I right, Ted?

[chuckles until he sees that Ted is not laughing]

Ted Nelson, Customer: [impatiently] What's your point?

Tommy: The point is, how do you know the fairy isn't a crazy glue sniffer? "Building model airplanes" says the little fairy; well, we're not buying it. He sneaks into your house once, that's all it takes. The next thing you know, there's money missing off the dresser, and your daughter's knocked up. I seen it a hundred times.

Ted Nelson, Customer: But why do they put a guarantee on the box?

Tommy: Because they know all they sold ya was a guaranteed piece of ****. That's all it is, isn't it? Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will. I got spare time. But for now, for your customer's sake, for your daughter's sake, ya might wanna think about buying a quality product from me.

Ted Nelson, Customer: [pause] Okay, I'll buy from you.

    Tommy: Well, that's...

    TommyRichard Hayden: ...What?

I really hope that was all from memory!!!

Yes I can recite this but in the interest of time I copied it off the web.

I did the same.  I'm going to order a couple of extra drain plugs just to have on hand once they get those back in stock and maybe a couple of extra latches as well.

I don't believe RTIC is going anywhere. Seems they settled the issues out of court between themselves.
RTIC has stated they will redesign and be back in the Spring.
Who knows, Gen II may have some new killer features and design!
Anyway my 20 and 65 will last for years.

Probably people stocking up out of fear they won't be available in the future.

Last week they were out of dividers for the 65, today they have them.  I'd guess the drain plugs will be back around soon, not sure about latches as that seems exactly like a yeti...I haven't checked, but I won't be surprised if a yeti latch will work on an RTIC Gen 1
  • I spoke with a customer service agent, and she said they should be back in stock 1-3 weeks, FWIW. I just order a 45. Hope I'm not disappointed.

This morning I ordered the Tan 45.  Figured what the hell, that’ll complete the set, lol.  Saw they had the 65 divider in stock and ordered it.  Decked out the 45 with two baskets and the divider as well.  Might as well now, in case they don’t make them anymore or change the mods when they redesign the new coolers. Should be good to go now.

Exactly what I did too.  Though I didn't get dividers.  Maybe I should do that.

Just got my brother a 65 for his birthday, which is mine when I need it kind of thing.  Plus a 20 and a soft 30.

I am trying not to buy a 45. But the temptation is difficult.

Looks like they are sold out of the 45 so there goes the temptation. Wallet temporarily spared.

I'm chomping at the bit for some spring trips to the lake with my Rtic full of protein and beer and my Mini Max.  Cheers!
