Pearl Harbor Remembrance

I know I'm new here, but I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet.  It's important that we all remember the men and women who lost their lives 75 years ago today in Hawaii.  My dad and both of his brothers would go on to enlist in the Navy during WWII, so it means a little more to me.  Many thanks to all who have served in the armed forces - we owe you everything we have.

  • Saw a news clip on the University of Arizona Mall Memorial in recognition of the battle ship with the same name, unveiled on December 4th. Very moving memorial that keeps this alive.

if you have ever had a chance to go to the memorial you will not forget it.  Same way with the memorial in Hiroshima.  Always find time to thank our brethren in the armed forces no matter what years they served.  Also don't forget the civilians that worked on many special projects right alongside the armed forces and gave as well as silent partners.

I learned something new yesterday listening to the local news. The original news reels are housed locally here at the U of SC. They were kept for many years at Ft Jackson (here in Columbia also), as they were made of a material that was highly flammable. The reels were not released to the US citizens for up to a year after the actual attack. They are currently being digitized for prosperity. Go forth with this useless bit of trivia.....and God Bless those who gave their lives or witnessed that day.

Why?  So he realizes that US Armed Forces men and women have died so he has the right to protest in any peaceful manner he sees fit. Hey, I may emphatically disagree on his choice of protest but, it's his soapbox to stand on.

That's right!  Just like the KKK can express their free speech.   The ability to have freedom of expression trumps all the jack-assed stuff people say.  People can say they don't want the freedom of expression, and that's ok too!!!  You get it.

It's always amusing to me that so many right-wingers seem to forget that one of their idols, Saint Antonin Scalia (who I recently learned was murdered by Hillary Clinton), was the deciding vote upholding the right to burn the flag as symbolic speech protected by the 1st Amendment. He also voted against  Congress' attempt to pass a law prohibiting flag burning a year or so later.

Interesting is correct. If he were a left-wing judge he would have voted with his or her voting block regardless of the Constitution or the law. See the difference smarty!

It's really funny how all the left-wingers only see one side of things. Just hilarious!

There are actually plenty of examples of liberal justices voting on principle.  What's hilarious is that you actually seem to believe that only one side behaves responsibly.

Gun (black) powder is a mixture of sulfur, potassium nitrate and charcoal.  Gun cotton is nitrocellulose.  Also used to make film, also used to coat the fabric on planes in the early 1900s.  Nitrocellulose generates many times more gas than black powder, makes it good for blasting.

With respect to those who served at Pearl Harbor, 7, December 1941, they were fulfilling their mission, and part of that mission is to protect the constitutional rights provided every American. We are fortunate to live in a country that provides these rights to all people.
Taking a stand on your beliefs, is what makes this country the greatest place to live on earth. His stage is larger than mine and most others. I see nothing wrong with trying to enact change. His method, as unreasonable as it may seem to most, is his free choice. Guaranteed.

Playing the part of a hyper-partisan seems to, in your mind, put you on some high ground where partisan positions are inherently correct, or incorrect.  That might fly with some people but to me, it should be taken out of the argument so the issue can stand on its own in the classical sense of debate.

So..when a conservative justice votes conservatively it's always because they are the ones upholding the Constitution.

And when liberal justices vote liberally it's always because they are just voting with their voting block.

    Got it.

Funny how Scalia (aka "Mr. Originalism") viewed the 14th amendment differently when it suited his needs.

Hey - I'm still waiting for you to tell me what media outlets you read/listen to that are the unbiased deliverers of Truth. I asked a couple times in a different thread and never got a reply tho I may have just missed your answer.

I'll be happy to discuss bbq related topics with you, however.  I just feel like you aren't adding anything of value to these political discussions, and I like to discuss those things with civil people.  Also, you are a lazy researcher.

Your expected reply to this would be to use some partisan word to describe me in a derogatory context, then throw in a comment about my obvious (to you) hypocrisy, and how I am the one who name calls, etc.

Sure, I do some of those things, sometimes, but I try to discuss things with civility unless I'm a combination of exasperated and hammered on bourbon, in which case I'm obviously being a facetious troll.  And it's too early in the day to do that, although Friday is coming up.
