Y'all have some great looking setups! Last night was our first go round being in our house for Halloween. Everyone came over for red beans and rice then the A/C went out. We promptly switched to whiskey and sat on the porch handing out candy (best decision of the night) while the kids went trick or treating.

  • We go to my brother-in-laws house. Where my brother-in-law over does it on candy every year, and my father-in-law takes all the trick or treaters on a hay ride to each house. Its pretty cool. My little one usually only goes to 2-3 houses (my BIL's best friends and the lesbians who give out awesome stuff) and then I come back and drink a cold one or two and watch my BIL give out obscene amounts of candy.

There were reports here of kids eating THC candy that was passed out.

I could see stashing a couple to the side, for the teenagers who still trick or treat.  =)

We set up tables in the cul-de-sac and cook 2 different flavors of chili, brisket, pheasant, hot dogs and dessert. All the neighbors come over then the kids go trick or treating while the adults sit back and hand out candy.

  • We always have a great time in our cul de sac with adult beverages, food, and conversation. We have candy and hay rides for the kiddos.  Made pulled pork for the festivities.  Yes, Jell-O shots were there. Had to share this yard display in my hood. If you are from Austin Texas you will "get" all of it.

love it! Great yard. We had 4 groups total. We live on kind if a busy street so the kids tuck in to the side streets a little more these days. Oh well- I have a freezer full of reece's cups so I'm happy. My youngest is 17 so he and his girl like to handle door duty when the kids come.

We have a great block party / happy hour 530-630.  Everybody brings an appetizer and beverages. Then the spouses take turns doing porch duty handing out candy while the other spouse continues drinking.  We are in a popular Halloween neighborhood.  Had a line 8 kids deep at one point.

  • It's our first year in the new house and there are a ton of kids in the neighborhood. My better half got an insane amount of candy that I've been sneaking into the past few weeks that she doesn't know about
  • What's the board consensus on handing out candy? Do you pass out the candy or let them pick?

Last time we had had trick or treaters we let them pick without restriction and it was gone within no time. Don't think we'll be making that mistake again, but don't want to be stingy either.

I put it all in a bowl and leave it on a table at the end of the driveway with sign that says "Take two and remember were watching!".  Then proceed to the neighbors and drink beer. Works pretty well

Have a 300 foot drive up hill (and dark) and the kids don't seem to want to walk up. Over 17 years not more than 10 total kids. I leave a stack of quarters inside the door and if someone shows give them money.

Assault & battery via Jolly Rancher. I wouldn't want to be the DA that ended up with that case...

Since we're kid free, SWMBO and I go to our nephews. His dad and I walk with the kids and most stops hand us "adults" liquor soaked gummy bears or as we call them, rummy bears. It makes for an interesting time

We sit in the "neck" of the cul de sac with a folding table and 5 neighbors worth of candy in three buckets.  Kids can walk up and take whatever, I can walk back up the driveway and get another beer as needed...

When my kids were younger we pulled a wagon to hold the haul, a tired kid but most importantly dads cooler.

I put an empty bowl outside the front door with a note that says please take 1 or 2 but leave some for the other kids.

I sit in the house and drink my adult drink and don't have to get up.

  • We have taken to purchasing hard candy, like jolly ranchers, that is good for throwing.  Our approach is to put out a very large, separate bin of candy that has lights on it and is stocked with all sorts of goodies.  But it's not a treat... it's a trick!

We hide behind the bushes to the sides of the steps with the hard candy.

As the costumed children approach the house in an unsuspecting way, coming up the driveway...  we start pelting them with the hard candy.

After they get over the shock of what's happening to them, some still make a break for the bin, but my wife has a heck of a right, and they usually catch one or two to the FACE before they turn around and run back to their parents. If they get too close we have a backup system of bottle rockets to shoot at them.

It's generally a lot of fun for all involved.  TRICK OR TREAT MOFOS!
This remains our approach.  I’ve yet to see a better one, although one of the neighbors thought Claymores in the lawn might be fun.

I live on a cul de sac in an older neighborhood. Doubt I get a dozen kids tonight. It is now 7:08 and I haven't even heard anyone!

    Claymores seem a bit extreme.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!
