Some sad news down at WWOZ. Jesse Hathorne who hosted a number of shows on the station passed away on May 2nd of Covid 19. He was 71.dannys said:I found out that WWOZ in New Orleans is playing the highlights of pas Jazz & Heritage fest. I'm streaming it now.
He hosted the popular shows, The Midnight Creeper, The Creeper, or Brother Jess, and most recently, The Creeper’s Blues Parlor.
The Midnight Creeper was a personal favorite, it came on Saturday at midnight and ran to 5 AM.
I really enjoyed his shows, I usually listened via streaming.

Whilst transversing the interminably-long length of Nebraska yesterday, SiriusXM offered up this fantastic nugget that I'd never heard before. Chris Brubeck's band performs the tune "Take 5", made famous by his Dad Dave (who plays an odd piano solo this time out) and also includes a very unusual "jaw harp" solo (I guess that's the PC name for a Jew's Harp, an "instrument" that I've owned but could never get to work).
But, what really blew me away was the harmonica on this track; it's like this song was made for harp, just wonderful sounding! Enjoy.

Rick Beato just released a half-hour video on Sting's compositions, and the three songs he outlines just happen to be my three favorite Sting songs (Synchronicity I, Synchronicity II, and Fortress Around Your Heart). Although I was a highest-chaired, non-music major trombonist at both ISU and SDSU (at least for a semester) I never really understood "modal", apparently Sting's (along with Miles and Trane's) secret weapon.
I will be watching this many times over the next few months, and may have to dig out my old Kurzweil to plunk along. This will only be of interest to the musicians here, and even then it's "out there".

Bob Dylan's new album drops tomorrow (Friday). Did not know it but his recent release of "Murder Most Foul" (from the album) made it to Number 1 on Billboards top 100. His first ever. I read this in an interview in the NY Times....... I have not validated that but find it amazing if accurate. For Bob and all of you....here is one of my favorites from another day.....
