@FarmingPhD - too modest right there.  Way to bring it home and on the first corner.

Arrachera (skirt steak).  Local Mexican Carneceria carries it.  They marinade it if you ask and toss in a bunch of green onions.  Hard to beat for Carne Asada.  Pro-tip, wipe of the marinade and pat dry before you grill it.  Otherwise it doesn't char well and can taste hammy.

  • Thanks @lousubcap @alaskanassasin @kl8ton - my fit and finish are getting better. Still working on the tool cabinet and decided to try a more challenging joint as a learning experience, if I screw it up, only a handful of folks will see it.

@bubbajack they are full through dovetails with a miter on the front.  I’m going to dado in a groove to hold the door panel and the mitered front part of the joint will hade the dado groove, otherwise I have to do a stopped dado on the through dovetails.

Just read through a report of a six vehicle vehicle collision that killed nine people on one of our surface street. A Dodge Charger flew through a red light at over 100MPH in a marked 35 MPH, hit a van filled with four kids, three adults. All killed along with the driver and passenger of the Dodge.

I cannot imagine the pain of the loved ones in the van that just had their entire family wiped out in flash because of someone else’s selfishness. I also cannot imagine the carnage that those first responders witnessed rolling up to the scene.

Just got done troubleshooting a door latch mechanism on my Jeep.  To the JK designer who hid the glass release latches behind the inner door panel and made it essentially impossible to remove.  I want to say F.U.  and learn to design for service.

I finally cut some wholes in the inner panel to reach the latches.  Since it is a Jeep.  I will be replacing these parts again, so figured I would make it easier next time.

replaced a freeze plug on the back of a jeep engine one by cutting a hole in the floorboard above the brake pedal  and smashing the plug in with a 2x3 and a splitting maul thru the steering wheel. friggin jeeps

For context this room tested out at -3.6db. The quietest place on earth is in one of these rooms and it tested at -20.3. Probably does not mean much but the difference between -3 and -20 is astronomical. You can hear the blood flowing through your body at anything below +5db and your heart sounds like a drum. Not a fun place to hang out for more than a few mins.

my fraternity back in the day had a built in bomb shelter, it was incredibly quiet once the big cement door was closed. fall a sleep in there and dont plan on waking up til someone opens the doors, a few were lost for days

@Battleborn That is tough to read.  Relatives and friends are scarred for life.
When my sons were learning to drive I told them I only had two hard over rules:  You don't run stop lights and you don't run stop signs.
Yes I had other rules and suggestions but those two were non breakable.

Another case where I miss the agree button because I don’t like what happened one bit. I’m short one cousin because she got in a car with a drunk driver. He proceeded to speed on a twisting two lane road until he sideswiped a five foot in diameter oak tree.

It happened in one of the other municipal jurisdictions, next to the area I work at. It is insane how many traffic related fatalities we have. I can’t remember the exact number, but I think we had north of 375 last year in the valley. Truly crazy numbers.

Did you get that job here in Texas? That's one hell of a commute. Have you thought about relocating?

any studies if its residents or people from out of state or out of town. i remember seeing that out of staters in boston was one of the highest. a one way street is just a suggestion, a boston left is taking a left into oncoming traffic without turning ones head or making eye contact.....never make eye contact or your just going to get stuck there

I’m sure someone keeps those statistics, I’m just not sure. I would guess the ~85-90% are “residents” but in a city that is perfect transient it is hard to say. Driving around here is like Thunder  Dome. If you drive 80 on a marked 65 freeway, you will get run off the road.

Yeap I am taking the job.. I was talking with one friend who has made several very smart career moves and he asked me why wasn’t I already out there…So now I am  Waiting on testing /state requirements and documents approval so I don’t have a definite start date.

Still planning on commuting on my 7 on 7 off.
My girlfriend is anchored here one more year until her kid graduates., we may make different arrangements once he’s off to a different education.

New company is making it worth my while though even factoring in that

Thanks for the update. Was curious as to how things were working out. Bit of a pain to have to replace that drywall, but a great alternative to retiling everything. Really a shame that most construction projects have a domino effect of creating other residual work. Half the time, it’s these considerations that prevent me from moving on smaller projects around the home.

What is that plug and why is it so expensive?

I don’t envy you writing the checks, but it’ll feel so satisfying to have that work squared away. I don’t really get a sense of how much more work is left from the photos, but I hope the finish line is not too far off into the horizon.

The new drain has a short section of piper that fits into the shower drain pipe. There are weep holes in the new drain pipe under the lip which would allow the water to drain into the shower drain pipe. The test with the 2 inches of water would not work without that plug which goes down into the pipe past the weep holes and seals that section of pipe. That handle is twisted, thus spreading out the plug, which is made of rubber, forcing the rubber against the pipe to seal it off. I guess it is a specialty item and thus very expensive according to the plumber.
