About to throw a couple picnics on the xl. Hope the skin turns out.
-
-
@pgprescott thanks. It's a pain to score the skin even with a really sharp knife but worth it when the skin comes out right. Have them running 300 high in the dome to help crisp the skin with green apple and fig for smoke. The Sazon in the rub is already turning a nice color.

Hey some guy is selling a brand new XL cheap and some jag bag is trying to lowball the poor schmuck! Wow, over the holidays no less??!

I've got an Arca-Swiss Monoball on my old Gitzo that I've had since 1992; at $425 it was supposed to be a lifetime investment, but I can barely move it anymore. I'm going to futz with it a bit, try disassembly and cleaning, and hopefully get it working smoothly again.Ozzie_Isaac said:

If that doesn't work, then a BH-55 from Really Right Stuff (I have their quick release system on all my cameras and lenses, it's top-notch!):

So glad I did a Googlez search before tearing things apart; found a two-step process to re-adjust the head "drag", and she's working like New! Happy camper tonight!Ozzie_Isaac said:@Botch that Arca-Swiss head is sweet. I'll have to check out that BH-55. I don't recognize it.
Really Right Stuff is a company started by a married couple in CA, it's been sold a couple times but the quality seems to go UP every time; it's expensive but very high quality, and they only sell direct that I know of.
Their site is here: http://www.reallyrightstuff.com/ but, like the BGE, it can become a money sink and I'm not responsible, view at your own risk.

@Botch their stuff looks awesome. I've been happy with my gear so far, but man that is tempting.
Photography is my 2nd love. I've been digital for a decade now, but I really miss the darkroom. Digital is superior, but my heart just isn't in it like watching a print begin to appear like in developer.I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.
-
^^^ I've only shot slide film, never did anything "darkroom", but I don't miss the $7/roll of film, $7/developing, and throwing 34 of the 36 slides into the trash.
While not as "romantic" as a darkroom, tweaking colors and contrast on my 27" Mac Retina display is kinda cool. However, photography for me was always about capturing what I was seeing while sitting on a mountaintop as the sun went down, or that single sunbeam illuminating that rock as the Sun came up, or the instant a hawk grabbed a gopher by the head; the image manipulation afterwards never did that much for me.
