I'm just happy we don't get a lot of snow. We only get on average about 6 feet annually. Sometimes it comes unexpectedly and in large amounts, but the roads are usually clear within a day or two. Our biggest problem is snow drifts. We do get our fair share of days where the daily high temp stays below freezing though.

I'm a southern boy through and through. In Atlanta we don't have winter...we have an extended autumn compared to you Yankees. For the record my grandfather said a Yankee was anyone from north of Macon ga. Which includes me. Imagine January and February days in the high 50s and most other months in the 70s. Sure we suffer in July and August, but give me two months of humidity over six months of snow any day. If you have three minutes watch and laugh at us...it's funny cause it's true. http://www.hulu.com/watch/591809

@ksmyrl‌, funny clip. What I don't think is funny is how something so small like a storm can cause people to just leave their vehicles on a highway. Makes me think that the Preppers aren't all that crazy. We lost power for 2.5 days last year and I've seen extreme weather in the different places I've lived, but nothing like the people that have experienced/lived through real natural disasters. When we lost power our biggest issue was that no power equals no water for me. I buried all my refrigerator stuff in a snow bank and we heat with coal, so no problems staying warm. Hopefully our nation remains disaster free this year.

@stemc33‌ I hear you. The real issue was (and I was stuck in "snowmageddon" for over 6 hrs) not the snow. It was the fact that the entire cities of Atlanta, Buckhead, and surrounding areas shut down and sent their employees home all at the exact same time. When you dump nearly 6 million people on the roads at the same time it causes gridlock in 80 degree and sunny weather. It wasn't the weather it was the over reaction to the weather. You make a good point...heaven forbid we have a terrorist scare or a dirty bomb in the city, chaos would ensue. Now the ice the next day was serious. We lost power for 12 hours. Anyway...I think the mayor and the governor learned from it. I hope so. I still love the south and in particular the ATL...go Falcons.

Heh heh... 6 hours. I had to rescue my wife(and 4 others) from being stuck 13 a few years ago in the DC one. Good times. It took me 6 hours just to get to her.

  • I think snowmageddan was also due to the hills in Atlanta and everyone in their 2 wheel drive SUV or Benz or BMW that won't go up a hill. It was hilarious to watch in my neighborhood. Luckily no one was hurt but a lot of burnt rubber.

It is funny...I had to help someone in a Ford F250 4x4. They had no idea they had to lock the front hubs. Guess it was the first time that truck had ever been in 4 wheel drive.

Here you go @SGH‌, it's a little chilly this morning. I just got home from work. Here's the outside and inside temp. Haven't fired up the stove yet because it's suppose to be back up to 80° next week.

I wonder how the weather is for our neighbors to the north? @Skiddymarker‌, @paqman‌, @Jwinn44‌, @TexanOfTheNorth‌, @cook861‌, have any of you had cold weather yet?

  • On my side of the Rockies and Coastals (Cascades) it has been a forever summer. This morning the temp is 10ºC (50ºF) that's the coldest we've seen since Spring. Highs of 22ºC to 24ºC (low to mid 70'sF)

60F here in Ottawa. Last two weeks were among the warmest weeks of the summer. SWMBO almost did not use the pool this summer but she did at least 3 times just last week.

We have a space heater in the bedroom and a wall heater in the bathroom. The rest of the house has been chilly. I try to wait until the cold sets in for good before firing up the coal stove. We probably have an another month and a half of hot..cold...hot..cold before the cold settles in. Been wearing hoody's and using blankets.

We actually had a pretty severe cool front come through today. It got down to 83 degrees. That's cold for September on the coast.
