Better to be lucky than good right there.  Great reward @saluki2007.

Congrats. I’m in a couple of local bourbon groups and the buzz today was 12 was available in Binnys locations around Chicagoland. People were posting the pics of their score and which location they got it from. My closest location said they didn’t have any but I was able to pic up this bottle of SR and a New Riff Binnys store pic

The Weller 12’s hit Louisiana too. I’ve got 2, didn’t have room for any more. Quite a few of my friends got em yesterday

    Meanwhile in Kentucky....we got nothing
  • @jadams03 how do you like it? I have heard mixed reviews of that one. I haven't ever had KY Owl...too pricey for me

@pgprescott - you've got that right.  The closer the epicenter the more scarce it becomes.

But you have much easier access to the limited distillery only releases...

To a minor point and much of those are already allocated.
Below is an example of how the demand keeps growing: This from Sazerac (BT and many more) regarding their Single Barrel select offering (occurs in Dec).
"Demand has far surpassed supply of our bourbons lately, and our 2020 barrels have already sold out.

We started offering barrels to consumers through Single Barrel Select in 2015.  See the evolution below.
    • 2015 – Barrels went on sale on January 2015 and sold out in August 2015 (8 months).
    • 2016 - Barrels went on sale on January 2016 and sold out in March 2016.  (3 months).
    • 2017 – Barrels went on sale January 2017 and sold out the same day.
    • 2018 – Barrels went on sale December 2017 and out in less than 1 minute.
    • 2019 – Barrels went on sale November 2018 and sold out immediately.  Users had about a 2 % of securing a barrel.
    • 2020 -  Barrels went on sale November 2019 and sold out immediately.  Users had about a 3 % of securing a barrel."

They offer around 200 barrels of a range of their bourbons.  My son and I played the computer controlled log in to your place in line in Dec 2020 and 2021.  Closest we got was #1650 and the furthest out #26150 (that is not a mistake).
Just the reality of the times.

That’s nuts. Don’t most of the distilleries still have quarterly or semiannual releases that are only offered in the gift shops?

As a side note where do you get most of your bourbon related news from?

@JohnfromKentucky you asked about the Ky Owl St Pat's edition.  I think it's enjoyable- easy to drink with good fruit forward flavor and caramel. Good bottle when I'm not looking for a "beast mode" bourbon. I do have a bottle of the KY Owl rye (bought before the prices became unpalatable) and that is a completely different animal- much bigger, more complex, longer, etc.  I've enjoyed this St Pat's edition and at a reasonable price point (bought this on a markdown) I've been pleased with it.  At the $135 MSRP I'm letting someone else enjoy it!

I agree that the owl rye is exponentially better than either the st pats or wiseman offerings. I personally would not pay for the wiseman or st pats. They others are definitely overpriced but are at least good to great whiskey. The others aren’t very good at all and are still fairly pricey.

The bourbons are pretty good but not as good as the rye. The wiseman is a hard pass and the st pats is acceptable at about $35.

The KY Owl Rye aged is exceptional.   Never had the straight bourbon-have been shooed away.

@saluki- Distilleries do have some releases that are in the gift shop but you have to queue up early to get one.  Locals will find out what and when and get 'em.
I get a lot of my info from a free on-line weekly update called The Bourbon Review; linked here  https://www.gobourbon.com/  . FWIW-

It’s just too hot down here, over 105 and pushing 50% humidity.   No brown water for me today-won’t even attempt.  Back to Tito’s, Topo Chico and lime over Sonic ice.
