Just back from France and fuel prices have dropped about 15% at the pumps.
Early June 1 litre of diesel was £1.85,  yesterday was £1.60
Copilot tells me that's down from $9.20 per US gallon to £8.

And for completeness, I filled up in France on Sunday at an equivalent of $7.50

Petrol is always 10% cheaper than diesel here, it's a kind of pollution offset thing.

Ten years later @JohnInCarolina - I don't know why they voted for it, now they have there audacity to die and  so not have to deal with the consequences.

Arrogant hubris from the Prime Minister meant there was no 'remain' campaign.  Nudge theory by Russia, nostalgia for an imagined past and racism did the rest.

Well unless I am mistaken the Off Topic forum has been nuked. Admittedly all I replied to lately were the global warming, fuel prices, and music threads in the past few months. I did read Lou’s posts on current events. I wonder about this particular thread.

To find the Off Topic thread you now have to select Forum List and it appears in the drop-down list.  WTF?
It's not like exceeding any non-moderated boundaries as far as I know.

Just as oil prices were dropping:

Iran strikes cargo ship in Strait of Hormuz

The Iranian military struck a cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday, potentially compromising efforts to reopen wide-scale shipping through the key waterway, according to news outlets

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps attacked a Singapore-flagged container ship, Ever Lovely, near the coast of Oman, which was attempting to flow through the new route in the Strait of Hormuz advocated by the United Nations maritime agency.

The vessel was struck on the starboard side and its bridge suffered damage, but no one on board was injured, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Center, which is affiliated with the British Royal Navy.

Iranian state media reported that Iran warned that safe passages in the strait, through which about 20 percent of the world's oil and gas flows, are restricted to routes marked by Tehran and that others are dangerous and unacceptable.

The attack comes as the traffic in the waterway has gone up. About 70 ships passed through the strait on Thursday, a 105 percent bump from Wednesday, according to Kpler, a data and analytics firm.

Of the 70, 53 were commercial vessels with the firm stating that low-risk ships “dominated the day’s profile.”

Just shows the world who really controls Iran and it's not who we negotiated with.

And this today: (You can't make this $hit up!)
Trump proposed having 47 trees near the White House to commemorate himself.
Exclusive: Trump is pushing for Lafayette Square, which is across from the White House, to have exactly 47 trees to commemorate his status as the 47th presidentMore: Trump wants all the trees to be maples. It’s unclear whether he would remove trees as a part of the effort or how many trees would need to be added.

^^^ So they’re still not going after the Nat’l Park Service, for pouring many gallons of 15% hydrogen peroxide (a common industrial paint stripper) a couple days after the algae appeared?  I’m really surprised they indicted; I seriously doubt there’s any video footage (which the traitors claim) of anyone slicing the paint (slicing the paint?); even if he grabbed a floating part of it and pulled, don’t see how this could be prosecuted more than a Jan 6 “tourist” stabbing a cop with a flagpole flying a “christian” flag…

And more on CHEETO and USA 250!

Tomorrow, America turns 250. But the celebration Americans will see isn't quite the one organizers spent the last decade planning. For nearly 10 years, the bipartisan, congressionally chartered America250 envisioned a once-in-a-generation civic commemoration built around history, service and local communities.

One America250 planning document imagined transforming the tiny Badlands town of Medora, North Dakota — population roughly 150 — into a living museum recreating Theodore Roosevelt's frontier experience. It hoped to draw 250,000 visitors for a nationally televised celebration on July 1 featuring A-list performers, immersive historical programming, a drone spectacular and, ultimately, the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library’s grand opening.

Instead, the opening went on this week with President Donald Trump — but without America250.

“The Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library was one of America250's first signed partners and we have been supportive since before its groundbreaking,” an America250 spokesperson told Playbook. “However, America250 is not participating in the opening ceremonies.”

The spokesperson said America250 had hoped to support the opening if it received an additional $25 million in federal funding. That money never came.

Of the $150 million Congress appropriated for America’s 250th festivities, organizers expected to receive roughly $100 million but have received just $25 million to date.

Into the void stepped Freedom250, the organization aligned with Trump's White House Task Force 250, which became a principal partner for the library opening. A similar story unfolded 1,600 miles away in Washington.

The Smithsonian Institution had spent years planning a monthlong Folklife Festival on the National Mall — an ambitious gathering that would have brought together traditions like Burning Man and Farm Aid alongside local and regional festivals from across the U.S. and its territories.

Instead, that space on the National Mall this month was used for Freedom250's Great American State Fair, forcing Smithsonian to take the festival nationwide, partnering with more than 40 existing festivals across the country.

The juxtaposition reflects the reality confronting America250.

“Our programming hasn’t changed at all,” America250 Chair Rosie Rios told Playbook of the consequences of receiving just a quarter of the funding it expected. “The scale of our programming has changed.” Rios, who has served on the bipartisan commission through the Obama, Trump and Biden administrations, said the organization has stayed faithful to the blueprint commissioners approved years before Trump returned to office.

“Our guiding principle has always been ‘no politics, just purpose,’” she said.

And much of that blueprint is still very much alive. But the biggest visual centerpiece belongs to Trump’s team.

Freedom250’s finale will be what organizers say is the largest fireworks display in American history with 850,000 firework shells.

Pyrotechnico President Rocco Vitale told Playbook his company began planning in January. The 40-minute show will stretch more than a mile across Washington, launching simultaneously from eight barges on the Potomac River, West Potomac Park and firing sites running the length of the Reflecting Pool.

More than 60 technicians have spent the past week assembling the display, using fireworks sourced from the United States, Italy, Spain and Asia. The soundtrack features patriotic crowd favorites like “Party in the U.S.A.” and “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue.”

“The scale of it was such a huge thing for all of us to really wrap our heads around,” Vitale said. “Once we got our heads around it, we were like, ‘Let's go do this.’
