Welcome to Italy @JohnInCarolina! I will also be in Tuscany in the next few days. It's going to be very busy as July the 2nd is a national holiday.
    Enjoy your stay
Are we coming up on July?  Did I miss a month somehow?  😜
Time flies in Tuscany!  We spent 10 days there and it went by very quickly.
It’s a charming area, although all the signs reading “Yanks go home” have been interesting.  I didn’t know so many people hate the Yankees as much as I do!

I'm in Siena tonight. Tomorrow morning we are starting a four days walk in Tuscany's hills. Just an hour drive from Florence where our friend @JohnInCarolina is enjoying Michelin star dinners.

Love Siena. Beautiful. Takes me back. Envious of your travels in Italy, @paolo and @JohnInCarolina

A bunch of my in-laws are visiting Rome and Venice right now. Already looking forward to my next visit to Italy.

    Beautiful - both shots.

I always begrudge the winter, with the ice and snow, but the other extreme has to be a rough ride as well.

I’m pretty good with winter but this rainy cold spring won’t let up

I've been there, not bad for the classic roman specialties. That "proper hamburgers" sign translates as "please Yankies come in". I would never order a burger there

I figured as much, lol.  I try to find the places serving up improper hamburgers, personally.

Off to the Pyrenees next weekend so occupied myself on 'necessary, important, complicated vehicle related things on the drive and in the garage - which can't be rushed'   Definitely not pottering.  Not at all, nope.

    And then washed the cars.

Other girls may try to take me away

Is that a new roof on the garage?

Did John bring his drone to Europe? He could do an overhead inspection on his way out of the country.

Ha!  I actually don’t own a drone.  I have played with Larry’s ( @lkapigian ) and man they are very cool.

That looks like my kind of vacation.  @Paolo, I may hit you up for some planning details in a few years when I retire.

@CPFC1905 - Nice vehicles.  Curious about the roof taxes that garage might incur?  I ask because of recently becoming aware of the Lowther family and their tax dodge.  Seems they completely removed the roof from their castle to avoid paying taxes.  How exactly do roof taxes work in England?

Talk to me about this driveway. Are these loose pebbles or are they some kind of adhered together asphalt type thing but really really good looking?  I really like it.

It looks like exposed aggregate concrete paving. I installed it on the porches of a public rest area that I built. Personally I don’t like it due to slip potential but an architect did the design and it was in the contract.

But there’s an epoxy rock coating for existing concrete.

BTW-nice roof to protect to serious occupants.😜

@Foghorn @kl8ton this is a great way of traveling and enjoying the country. No car, no stress, just yourself, a backpack and your fellows. You meet nice people, see beautifull places and usually get the chance of eating dinner in the best places you can find out there.
@lousubcap I would be more than happy to help. This particular one is called via Lauretana.

Sounds like the sort of tax @JohnInCarolina would impose,  but turns out the word 'castle' was more significant.
It was inheritance tax and to avoid finding a few million in cash to pay death duties, the Earl of Lonsdale artfully converted his castle (and home) in to a ruin.
Safe to say that won't be a problem for me.

Loose gravel, very common here for driveways of houses not built in large developments.  It's 20mm stones poured on to earth and lightly rolled.  Some have weed control membrane underneath, or geo-textile membrane to hold the stones in place.

Pro's : cheap and drains well.  Easy to add more gravel and no need to clean, so maintenance free and not susceptible to ground movement.
Con's : weeds, compression causes puddles - so not ideal for heavy traffic areas like shared drives, stones migrate in to the lawn and borders, can get stuck in your boot soles so regularly joins you in the car for trip out.  Oh, and my dog doesn't like walking on it.

@Paolo, the closest I have come to that is spending most of a day walking around a cheese farm about 70 km southeast of there at Caseifcio Piu.
