Wait until she sees your tooling expenses, haha. You best learn how to make her something nice for your first project.CTMike said:
The AltMill is obviously a 3-axis machine, but I also opted for the rotary attachment which will accept objects up to 4" in diameter. I also opted for the 12 tool Automatic Tool Changer (ATC) so I think it is about as close to a commercial type machine as I can get within the budget set by SWMBO.lousubcap said:

I recall buying a commercial grade 6-axis Locatelli CNC machine (turning precise MLB baseball bats) for orders of magnitude more back around 15-18 years ago.
You will reap the initial investment if you stay the course. -
My first Project is going to be an inlaid cutting board like this (different inlay design though):

MMBGE / Large BGE / XL BGE (Craigslist Find) / SF30x80 cabinet trailer - "Ol' Mortimer" / Outdoor kitchen in progress.

We live in a small house and I don’t have a shop/garage so it needs to fit on a bench in the basement. I was initially going to get a very cheap small 3-axis from Amazon and then the online spam started… I almost pulled the trigger on a Makera Z1 (kickstarter) but then I read that it is likely not powerful enough. Makera also makes the Carvera Air with a quick manual tool changer and a higher end Carvera with ATC and other upgrades. I am likely going to order the Carvera Air but I am overwhelmed by all the other options available.CTMike said:

Look at the Longmill by Sienci. The AltMill also comes in a 2' x 4' version. .paqman said:

Bidding on a 120# 13" automatic meat slicer, I have no idea why, no where to put it, and rarely slice meat. Maybe this belongs in the "what are you doing rn" thread... honestly I am not sure.South of Columbus, Ohio.

someone talk me out of this giant meat slicer!?South of Columbus, Ohio.

You absolutely need it. Once you have it, you will find 1,000 uses you never knew before.alaskanassasin said:someone talk me out of this giant meat slicer!?I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

Great for inconvenient bodies.alaskanassasin said:someone talk me out of this giant meat slicer!? -
Funny, I was recently trying to convince my wife we needed one.

-
Yeah that is about what I was thinking. If I do get it for cheap I will flip it on marketplace. I honestly cannot think of one instance where I have needed a slicer. When I was curing meats it would have been nice for that but not practical. What were your plans for one @GrateEggspectation?South of Columbus, Ohio.

Deli meats and cheeses. Buy in bulk, slice, package and freeze.alaskanassasin said:Yeah that is about what I was thinking. If I do get it for cheap I will flip it on marketplace. I had countertop appliances, so I’d store between uses, as I do with my vac sealer. -
Making jerky is a breeze with a slicer.

@GrateEggspectations I do get a 25% discount at the deli when I buy whole packages of mozz and cheddar but to your second point this slicer weighs 120lbs or 54kg so storage would take some consideration. My chamber sealer has a permanent spot in the pantry but I use it almost every day.South of Columbus, Ohio.

I almost made pit beef the other day but I got distracted and forgot all about it lol. That looks amazing btw Ill have to check out James River BBQSouth of Columbus, Ohio. -
There is all kinds of restaurant stuff in this auction and nothing has really been bid on. Pizza shop closed down, I could get pizza ovens, walk in coolers, commercial ovens, tables, nothing really looks that appealing to me but if a $4,500 slicer goes for cheap enough...South of Columbus, Ohio.

That’s what I’ve heard and had been wanting to try. The yellow stick in the packaging is some sort of stripping compound. I was told the yellow replaced the former green because of environmental factors.fishlessman said:GrateEggspectations said:Strop for kitchen knives.
