    You potential CNC guys are taking home manufacturing to a whole new level.  As is the case with everything, the technology, availability and price point have dropped to a consumer reasonable level. 
    I recall buying a commercial grade  6-axis Locatelli CNC machine (turning precise MLB baseball bats) for orders of magnitude more back around 15-18 years ago.  
    You will reap the initial investment if you stay the course.  
    The AltMill is obviously a 3-axis machine, but I also opted for the rotary attachment which will accept objects up to 4" in diameter. I also opted for the 12 tool Automatic Tool Changer (ATC) so I think it is about as close to a commercial type machine as I can get within the budget set by SWMBO. 
    Wait until she sees your tooling expenses, haha. You best learn how to make her something nice for your first project.
