At the airport.  Headed up to NYC for a long weekend.

On the docket: Duke game in MSG Saturday night, and Waiting for Godot on Broadway (featuring Bill and Ted).  I’ll post pics as I can.
Any trip to NYC is great.  My son and his wife just got back from 4 days there over the weekend.  Had a fantastic time.
Any high end dining on the agenda?

The season within a season is starting.  All teams are affected by the African Cup of Nations, either losing players or gaining a slight advantage by not. Then we have the collision of Euro matches, a festive over-load of games, the latter stages of one domestic cup and then the start of the other one in the new year.  Plus the transfer windows opens for January, which fans believe will instantly fix all problems but clubs are traditionally more circumspect.   In to the hurly burly then.

    Saturday

Newcastle vs Chelsea - the great at home Toon welcome a wobbly Chelsea who have contrived to spill their good recent form. The hosts need points as their away form has left them adrift in mid-table.  It’ll be fun, there will be goals, so 3-2

Bournemouth vs Burnley - despite punching ‘17th place’ in to Waze the Clarets are ignoring all instructions and are free-falling south of the dotted line.  The Cherries will see this as a chance to stabilise recent weak performances. 2-0

Brighton vs Sunderland - The Maccems simply won’t give in and remain in lofty 8th place, and three points ahead of the Filthies. Tricky to call this one, but my feeling is AFCON absences will make the difference. 2-0

Man City vs West Ham - 3-0, simple as that.

Wolves vs Brentford - the Old Gold flirted with an upset at the Gunners last week, but capitulated late on. 16 games in and just the two points to show.  Not sure what the adjective is for that, but the out of sort Bees will be looking forward to three points.  0-1

Spurs vs Liverpool - The Reds have instituted some degree of reliability and should feel confident about this trip to London, but have lost key players to AFCON and have injuries elsewhere.  Spursy Spurs have found themselves in 11th and remain baffled by that.  No-one else is, though.  1-1

Everton vs Arsenal - The Toffees are another team who will be net losers during AFCON and start that period hosting the Gunners who were stung by nearly shipping points last week again Wolves.  No such repetition will be tolerated.  0-2

Leeds vs Palace - oh dear, it’s all too much for the Mighty Eagles and given the chance we would retire to our boudoir with a headache.  Dirty Leeds will be full of confidence as they have found good form.  But it’ll be tight, if the hosts get the first goal then that’ll be it.  We’d shake hands on a draw right now.  1-0.

    Sunday

Villa vs Man Utd - unquestionably Utd are doing better now, but they confront the absolute form team who just keep winning.  Taking home three points form this game would be a huge statement, but the Villans have forgotten how to lose. 2-1

    Monday

Fulham vs Forest - and then there’s this bit of admin to keep things tidy. 14th host 16th and no one will notice, nor care. 0-0.

OK, need to start thinking about Christmas admin.  Turns out that there’s not many days left and in fact some gifting is required.

The stars of this show are Bill and Ted, otherwise known as Keanu Reeves and the other guy.

I figure if Godot makes an appearance it’s for Keanu, right?  I’m optimistic.

@SamIAm2 , that’s awesome and those are really nice keepsakes!  You should get back into it.  Finishing up my niece’s blanket currently. 19 spools down and only 2 or 3 to go.

I have been on a mission of my own for the last month....playing my CD music discs - one per day on my Sony BlueRay player. Track number and time elapsed info on the BlueRay unit only. Sergio Mendes & Brazil '66-86 right now.  Don't even want to get back into ripping my records again.

  • Really nice to see you posting, @SamIAm2. Happy holidays.

Your post reminds me of a long gone time when we used to own copies of our music, rather than just rent them via subscription. I digitized my cd collection some time, but don’t listen to them, as I stream using a YouTube Music subscription instead.

@GrateEggspectations - Bit of background about that photo I posted; one of my BIL's was an interesting guy as was his wife. Both graduates of Michigan State (same year), both were teachers and interested in many things - large cent pennies (He wrote the definitive book "1794 Large Cents Graded and Updated"), a 1961 version of the song "Who's That Knockin' ", Stained glass (she and many other helpers - including me and my wife - for our local church,  and built her own furniture. He gifted me that Boxed Beatles set (EAS-50031-44) published in 1979 (1 of 3,000 created at that time) shown above the battery charger on the bottom shelf. He was also a local radio personality and the broadcaster for the local junior college basketball team. Oh and yes, I have now added playing one of my LP's daily on this:
Enjoy your time with family over the Holidays.

At LaGuardia.  Taxi driver back to the airport was from Ghana.  Had been in NYC since 1983.  Told us all about the famous people he’s had in his cab, from Derek Jeter to Andre Agassi and Brooke Shields (when they were dating).

He also explained to us why Times Square is one of the safest places anywhere, because there are cameras everywhere that the NYPD monitors 24/7.  Strange, I could’ve sworn I’d heard otherwise.

Not sure where you heard it was dangerous.  When I was there it was super crowded but I’m pretty sure every 3rd person was a police officer.  Never felt unsafe.

oh, didn’t realize some people haven’t gotten their King Translator App yet.

Basically, things are the exact opposite of what he says.

Years ago on here, @pgprescott challenged me suggesting I’d never let my daughters walk around Times Square at night, because it was so dangerous.

Suffice it to say, Pete had consumed a little too much right-wing media.

Five more years of NFL provided health insurance for him and his family.
  • Woke up early, broke down, portioned and vac sealed two beef tenderloins. Cut the meat off of the scraps (mostly chain) to coax four burgers out of each tenderloin. Took photos, but they won’t load.
