nope.  as a kid i LOVED rice. Potatoes too, but LOOOVED rice.  My mom had a potato ricer and I would come to the table and see the bowl thinking it was rice only to realize no soy sauce on the table. Disappointment ensued.

other than that, potato ricers are just fine.

Just hit the road to go see the family. The dogs are at the Graybar Hotel, and I finally got the Apple sausage ring done. I needed a backup in case both turkeys that they bought are inedible. First time in near 20 years that I didn’t cook the turkey.

@WeberWho Agree totally. Full disclosure: For years we mashed manually until few years ago. Yours truly had a brain fart and decided to use an electric hand mixer, the potatoes turned into glue and burned out the motor :) Switched to ricer and never looked back.
Grew up with a ricer and never used it as a basis for mashed - only for riced potatoes. As a young lad, was usually pressed into service for this task.
I see what you did there.

Letting the DVR do it's thing for the last NFL game of the day.  Will give it at least a 2 1/2 hour head start.  Depending on the personal fuel load which is getting up there (LEO for sure) I may speed watch the game Friday AM.

We click over to one third complete for this season already, and what do we know?  Liverpool are in disarray, Chelsea’s super-spending from two years ago is bearing fruit, Wolves are preparing for next season in the Championship and most of all Arsenal look the real deal.  Several close games on the roster this weekend, and the top two face off - so tricky to call, I suggest not betting the farm and maybe rein it back to just one of the kids’ inheritance.  And if that bothers you, then pick the kid most likely to do well, so it’ll even out in the end.

    Saturday

Brentford vs Burnley - sadly the Clarets might as well get used to the view from 19th. Form and favour has evaded them and a trip to the 13th placed Bees looks just too much. 2-0

Man City vs Leeds - much the same as above, Dirty Leeds sit 18th and not too far adrift but certainly heading the wrong way because others around them have improved. City still have that ‘past their best’ aroma, but will have enough for this one. 2-0

Sunderland vs Bournemouth - 8th travel to 7th and this will be a game of fine margins.  Home advantage shades it, 1-0

Everton vs Newcastle - the Toffees are in reasonable clip, despite their players fighting one another on the pitch and the toon on the road are unreliable. A far from certain 1-0, with a strong hint of 0-0.

Spurs vs Fulham - we warmly welcome back Spursy Spurs, that early season stability just did not suit them. Neither team are on a  firm footing and each could take the points, so it’s 1-1 from me

    Sunday

Palace vs Man United  - Euro commitments are taking their tolls at the Mighty Eagles, which offsets the newly established superiority over Utd across the last 3 seasons. Utd were doing great and then they weren’t.  Form says home win, obviously I don’t. 1-1

Aston Villa vs Wolves - unremarkable 3-0.

Forest vs Brighton - The Dyche effect is in full effect with three wins on the bounce, but - and this is notable, they have been against poor opposition.  The Filthy Seagulls aren’t that.  If Forest park the bus then 0-0 it is. If the Filthies get in front they’ll stay there. So I’m going 0-1.

West Ham vs Liverpool  - oh dear, the Reds are in a well earned 12th and continue to file abject performances. The Hammers are shoring up under Nuno, so this is about whether the visits can take and hold a lead.  I fear not. 2-1.

Chelsea vs Arsenal - the game of the weekend sees the top two slug it out.  The Gunners are just inspired with now, so as good as the Chels look, no one is on a par with the Arse’.  Fun times and 2-3.

Ok, got to dash - i need to save 50% on everything, or is that waste 100% on everything?

So close, yet so far.  Another $5,000 lawyer bill for last week and now looks like it will drag into next year. Reviewing everything, my strategy is changing.  Going to ask King Solomon to cut the baby in half.

A break from European games this week, but what do you know - a sneaky fully set of PL games got snuck in there.  And so, where do we find ourself since last Friday - well, kind of as you were if you please?   Villa have usurped Chelseas as the form team, they just can’t stop winning.  Arsenal remain atop the pile.  Liverpool and Man Utd can’t gain traction.  Bournemouth have managed to navigate themselves to 13th after a very promising start to the campaign.  And at the foot, Leeds have hauled in West Ham - to leapfrog over the dreaded dotted line.

    Saturday
Villa vs Arsenal - tough game all around here.  Villa misfired in the first mont of the season and have soared since.  The Gunners will need all their flair and a decent dollop of guile too. Too tight to call.  2-2

Bournemouth vs Chelsea - a suck-punch from nowhere inflicted a first loss for a month for the Chels’ mid-week.  They go to the gravity affirming Cherries this week. Anything could happen, but recent form says way win. 1-2

Everton vs Forest - ten points from the last 5 games has lifted Forest from the depths. Everton remain obscurely central in the league with a decent points haul and yet no real identity.  The visitor have enough to thwart their hosts, so 1-1.

Man City vs Sunderland - huge test for the Maccems as they visit a Citeh team that have slipped from idling in to first, through second gear, and the flat-head’s crank speed only heading north.  Not the season defining game for the visitors, but a trick period is looming as they could lose 7 players to Afcon in a couple of weeks time. 2-0.

Newcastle vs Burnley - still moored in mid-table, the Toon are an odd bunch.  Nothing to fear from the Clarets who really are not great. Perhaps this is the Toon lacuna-pad? 3-0

Spurs vs Brentford - speaking of odd-bonds, the Spursy-Spurs have gone all Spursy.  Two points form the last 5 games is poor and only sufficient to keep them out of the mire because of their strong start to the season.   The Bees aren’t exactly reelable either and perhaps this is the beige-set match of the weekend?  Let’s go crazy, 1-0.

Leeds vs Liverpool - ooh, stinker alert.  Leeds ambushed Chels’ mid-week and the Reds ‘but we’re the Champions, kneel before us’ schtick has truly evaporated.  I reckon this will be full of fun and hi-jinx.  Hopefully a hatful of goals and all the frantic joy that brings. 3-2

    Sunday
Brighton vs West Ham - tough times for the Hammers sustain, they are south of the dotted line and have to visit the media darlings on the South coast. However, the Filthies squandered a two goal lead in the mid-week, slipping to defeat against Villa.  Can’t happen again - the Illuminate won’t permit that. 2-0

Fulham vs Palace - meh, usually a draw and I am hoping for reflective ‘respect the point’ feeling after this match. 1-1.

    Monday
Wolves vs Man United - The old Gold are more or less down already. Performances have improved but results remain the same.  Consistently inconsistent Utd should be able to mop up the three points here, albeit not nailed on. 1-2.

Nineteen sleeps to Christmas.  Can you believe it??

And apologies for my glaring omission; today of course is the day that in future we will call 'the birth of soccer-ball' as the World Cup 26 draw is made, starring long-time money enthusiast and no-time football enthusiast,  DJT himself.

    Full details here; https://www.theguardian.com/football/2025/dec/02/world-cup-2026-draw-which-teams-have-qualified-and-how-does-it-work

    And my preferred except of that, here;

When does the World Cup draw take place?

The draw will start at Washington DC’s Kennedy Center at 12pm local time on Friday 5 December (5pm GMT/4am Saturday AEST).   Although don’t worry if you tune in late: based on previous draws there will be a few speeches about Fifa being on the verge of bringing about world peace via the medium of football,   some interpretive dance about Fifa being on the verge of bringing about world peace via the medium of football,   some videos with kids kicking a ball about to show that Fifa is on the verge of bringing about world peace via the medium of football, and then, hopefully, Fifa actually bringing about world peace via the medium of football.      And if you miss any of that, don’t worry; Fifa will also be awarding a peace prize to the person most likely to bring about world peace in the next few months.

At some point in all of that, they’ll place teams into groups and at long last give this expanded tournament an actual schedule.

@CPFC1905, as always, thanks for the football posts.

    1thought, 1 question:

For the first time ever I have been unable to secure World Cup tickets before the draw.  The opening ticket lottery has traditionally been not too hard to "win".  In 2010 for South Africa I got tickets to 5 of the 7 games I requested.  In 2014 in Brazil I got tickets for 3 of the 7 games I requested.  In 2022 I got the right to purchase tickets for 4 of the 7 games I requested (we ultimately didn't go because there was no good lodging option).  However, the new process - or US ticket scalper greed - or bots - or all of the above, has set it up such that nobody I know was able to get the right to purchase any tickets.  As a result, the draw won't be as interesting to me as in some previous years.  I will be paying attention to who gets drawn into the early round games in Houston as we will likely try to get to one or more of those since my daughter lives there and we have free lodging - and it's only a 3.5 hour drive away...

As for the question - if Man U can pull off a loss to Wolves (entirely in the realm of possibility), would that make them "Spursy"?
