Helped my son change his brakes the other day - left the tools in back of my truck and they got stolen.  Nice Dewalt XR impact wrench, a 5Ah battery, my full socket set, and my grab bag with all my various hand tools I keep for when I go to a job with unknown requirements.  Kind of bummed about all that.

100% my fault and shouldn’t have left them in the bed of the truck.

How is he doing. I vaguely remember that he might have started a detailing business but it’s been a while.

It will probably go to one of the local pawnshops or to Craigslist. A thief is actually too lazy to use them to work.

Good luck!  Some employers don’t appreciate the value to a soon to be ex-employee when said employee gets to hand in a resignation.

Basically just sent an offer over to try and get this **** show circus done, has me walking away from over $500k in assets and cash to just be done - beyond the equitable split mind you.  My lawyer said anymore and you might as well just give her everything.  My lawyer is not happy - she also admitted that having dealt with this now for a year, she isn’t even sure my ex will accept this.

To be clear, will be the absolute best $500k I have ever spent.  Absolutely worth every last penny.

Yep I would slowly start moving personal possessions including personal computer files out. For instance my personal recipes were on my work computer and my filing cabinet had a thick folder containing all of my certifications, diplomas, etc. Then delete what you can legally delete. Using IT departments instructions, I reformatted my work phone.

It worked.  Mental health and time I cannot get back.  Also need to protect my kids.

This reminds me of a cab ride I once took in Boston with a couple of colleagues from work.

We get in the cab from our meeting hotel to go to a restaurant and ask our cab driver how he's doing.

He replies with a middle eastern accent (not casting aspersions, just trying to be accurately descriptive):  "Terrible.  My wife.  She wants divorce."

    (long silence)

    .
    .
    .
"She is alcoholic.  I have anger management issues."

    (more long silence)

My divorced PhD colleague then says: "You know why divorce is so expensive, right?"

    He replies "No. Why?"

PhD colleague: "Because it's worth it"

We’re back after frenetic spell of World Cup qualifiers which by my estimation has resulted in about three nations across the globe being eliminated, nearly all now in play-offs apart from the usual suspects already booked in.   Also, we’re in the proper football season now, dark at 4pm and temperatures struggling to get near double digits.

And disclaimer, there Ashes has started - so until Australia inevitably race to an unassailable lead, attention will be divided.

    Saturday
    • Burnley vs Chelsea –  not looking great for the Clarets now, two defeats on the bounce and the Chels’ will not be in giving mood.  It’s theoretically possible the hosts will remain north of the dreaded dotted line after this, but it’s reality that counts.  0-2
    • Bournemouth vs West Ham – a bone fide wobble for the Cherries with two defeats on the trot and shipping seven goals across them.  A few weeks ago the Hammers would have been the balm to soothe concerns, but they themselves are shoring up. 1-1
    • Brighton vs Brentford – very little to choose between the form of both teams after 11 games tells us all that this will be a draw, so 1-1 it is.
    • Fulham vs Sunderland – The Cottagers are the surprise slumpers hidden in plain view.  5 losses out of the last six sees them sliding perilously close to a relegation dog fight, and while no team is immune from that - do they have the capacity to arrest the slide?  They certainly don’t look it right now.  The Maccems will gladly scoop up three points to keep their top 4 delirium alive. 1-2
    • Liverpool vs Forest – 8th place, one win in the last six and the rest defeats is not the portent of a successful defence of the league title.  Not a third of the way in yet, but ‘top 4’ has got to be the best the Reds can achieve from here.  Forest’s abysmal start could be behind them, being undefeated in their last two - and that’s a big uptick. Could go either way and no-one will be surprised unless it’s 0-0.  Sketchy 2-0
    • Wolves vs Palace – the hosts have spun the wheel and a new manager has been installed for the Old Gold, some say preparing for life after relegation already.  Maybe too soon for that, but 2 points after 11 matches does not scream mid-table comfort.  The mighty Eagles are scoring more than one per game and letting in fewer, and their uncharacteristic professional approach to matches suggests a no-fuss away win.  Naturally I assume the opposite, but will play the game and go 0-2.
    • Newcastle vs Man City – all very well to play sexy football in Europe but the home fires need to be kept aflame too.  That’s not happening for Toon who languish in 14th and but for three draws would be in the relegation zone.  City are on the march and as long as Arsenal stay focussed, will be the only genuine chasers for top spot.  1-2

    Sunday
    • Leeds vs Villa – the visitors have risen phoenix-like to 6th, passing many teams that had better starts to the campaign - but just look at the table, thats’ all that matters.  Leeds just can’t pull clear nor can they see where the next point is coming from.  They could well be in the bottom three after this while the Willains hit the top 4. Sliding doors indeed. 0-2
    • Arsenal vs Spurs – the north London derby and both teams in the top 5.  No-one is quite srue how Spurs have managed 5th, as the whiff of Spursy still lingers.  The Gunners are free flowing up front and resolute at the back. Got to go with form, but wishing for a bonkers goal fest of a scramble. 1-0

    Monday
    • Man Utd vs Everton – so are Utd back?  Five unbeaten and this will be a good test as the Toffees are hot and miss, so an away win answers the opening question with a clear no, but a comfortable home win suggests all is well.   The former would be more fun but Everton are only reliable at home this season. 3-1

Yeah.  My initial thought was "I know you have a PhD and all, but saying that to a man who is down-in-the-dumps and has an anger management problem at a time when our lives are in his hands is not a very smart thing to do..."

That is a quick trip but great professional recognition right there.  I thought being between the audience and lunch/dinner was a challenge...never mind cocktails!  🍸
