    Along the lines of people being stupid and not being aware of things.... I have a couple friends in the fire department and a big issue is while they are fighting fires, people are driving over the fire hoses that they are using to put out and said fires. There's actually a new story recently put out in our area warning drivers to not drive over the firehouses that are being used to fight fires.

    About 8 years ago when I first got on the road, I was working a graveyard shift and was the first arriving on a hit and run auto vs pedestrian wreck. Got the road blocked off. Eventually someone came up and when I informed them they had to turn around. After a few minutes of listening to them b!tch I told them to look real close down the road. The first little bump was someone’s leg, the bigger bump about 15 yards further down the road was a crumpled body. After about 15 seconds of the blank stare down the road I had to hear about how unprofessional it was of me to point out someone’s death. 
    I have no doubt.  This may be the kind of thing some body cameras should show on TV.  
    We ended up finding the guy responsible shortly thereafter. He was an active duty Air Force guy. They ended up charging him in the military court system. He ended up getting significantly more time. I testified at that court martial. That was weird.

    Damn. Not a good time for you. 

    I like the ceiling. There was a time when that was artistry. We thought about sanding ours off, but I think I’d rather preserve it as an homage to the house.

    I know many of you know this, but no checked bags (carry on only) is by far the best way to fly.  This holds in the US but it’s especially true internationally.  Avoiding the need to check bags circumvents all kinds of headaches and potential delays.  Obviously it’s not always possible but if you can find a way to swing it I strongly recommend the approach.  
    Looks like a great trip, John. Beautiful scenery. Haven’t yet done Portugal or Spain, but they are both high on the list. 

    Totally hear you about the freedom of no checked bags. The last several business trips I took were just carry on - a collapsible guitar and a small luggage case. Besides all the benefits you list, it is freeing to have less luggage overall during the trip. My favourite way to travel.

    About checked bags: I have had great experiences with checked bags in the US.  By the time I get to baggage claim the bag is always there.  Maybe just luck...
    Haven't done international in a few years but definitely know the perk of not having to deal with that issue.  
    Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood.  Life is too short for light/lite beer!  Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint.

    Just finished online shopping for Medicare part D. I wonder how many people don't calculate the total premiums plus the total drug costs or check that all of their prescriptions are covered?

    My parents used a broker - Medicare specialist. Every year they submitted all of their medications, etc. to her and she showed them what they had vs what they could get.  A few times it felt like churn - "you'll save $50 next year but you have to switch pharmacy" and we stepped in to help with more pragmatic choices - like not sending an 80yo to a different pharmacy.  Overall, I would recommend it.  At one point she and my mom had a disagreement over something stupid and my mom quit using her - I had to fill in and it was awful.

    I tried to use a broker starting in February. He said to call him back when I had my Medicare card. That took until the third week of May because of government upheaval. Then the broker put me off for a week. At which time he admitted that he didn’t complete his continuing education. He finally told me that Monday of this week and told me to go to Medicare.gov. Gee thanks Sammy! We’ll see how well I did starting next month. I went with the higher deductible/lower premium after doing the math.

    Contemplating my food options - DoorDash dropped off food no where near my house.  Finally found the spot photo was taken and no food there.  Was looking forward to Vindaloo and Daal Makhani.
     - ordered everything Extra Spicy, so I hope whoever stole it enjoys extra spicy Indian food.

    Weather was really bad in my ‘hood Saturday evening. Luckily our house is okay. A lot of others around us were not as lucky. 

    Given our power situation, I suspect that all food will be a loss unless a miracle happens.
